Need new PC Build

My motherboard died on my PC looking to upgrade but had a couple questions. I was running a i5 6600k with a gtx 1080 both liquid cooled and looking at upgrading to a i5 9600k with Rtx 2070 super and wondering if this processor and video card would work well together.

It’ll work well, but depending on the game, you won’t notice any difference in performance with the 1080 to 2070.

If the 1080 is still chugging along, I’d just stick with that. It’s still a really good GPU.

The i5 9600k is still a fine WoW gaming CPU, but you might consider an i7 processor. Especially, if you decide to stick with the 1080.

Personally, I’d skip any of the non-HT intel chips.

For less money you can score a Ryzen 5 3600 and a B450 Max motherboard, or for just a tad bit more, you can get a Ryzen 7 3700x which has 8 cores and 16 threads.

Skip on the i5 9600k, both the r5 3600 and i5 10600k are much much better. The i5 10600k comes with 6 cores 12 threads, 12mb L3 cache, and higher clocks than the i5 9600k.

An i5 9600k always loses out to an i7 8700k, but the i5 10600k beats it. Intel finally responded to Ryzen 5, don’t get stuck on a 6 core 6 thread cpu in 2020.

The Intel parts are pretty good this time around for 10th gen, but they are hard to find and are more expensive.

I would probably skip a 6/12 chip in 2020, but that’s me.

If budget allows, I’d also go 8/16 instead of 6/12 just for future proofing

I am with you on this one, but the i7 is pretty expensive. He might want to stick to Intel so the i5 would make the most sense if he did.

What do spend your time on your PC doing?
