earlier today I made this macro, and it was working beautifully, but then a few minutes ago it stopped working - it never allows me to cast Mana Shield. I’m thinking maybe this was never intended to work, and by cooincidence they fixed it after I had been using it for half a day?
/castsequence reset=30 Ice Barrier, Mana Shield
When I press my key, it casts Ice Barrier, then I see the cooldown for Ice Barrier, but I can never cast Mana Shield.
I just used that macro online and it worked for me on my mage. The macro cast Ice Barrier first and then Mana Shield after. Not sure why it’s not working for you.
So castsequence trips a lot of people up. Here’s why.
It’s not initial press that your 30 second timer starts. Well, it is, but if you press that button again less than 30 seconds later it restarts the timer. Here’s something that may help.

/cast [mod] Mana Shield;Ice Barrier
In this macro your tooltip will be Ice Barrier and will cast it, unless you press alt, ctrl, or shift. If you press one of those your tooltip will change to Mana Shield and will cast manashield if you hit the key.
Edit: Additionally, the macro interface can be glitchy in classic. I’ve had some spells I bought not work out of sheer spite. Usually taking a bit of time before I can work ranks into my macros. If you’re adding ranks and say you just bought a higher rank of Mana Shield, specify one rank lower for a bit.
Yeah, when I first tried it, it worked. Then after a short time (an hour maybe?) it stopped working. I tried it again just now and it works again! very weird…
Just a followup - at some point I trained Mana shield to the next rank, and the macro stopped working again. I discovered that there is a bug that some ranks do not work with the macro, so I had to specify the rank in my macro to make it work again. I know, it’s really weird, but it’s just one of those things that they probably will never fix.
