I did a m9 tonight and my recount said I did 35k overall and someone else was runnign details and said I was doing 20k overall dps. I dunno what to believe in which one and what dps meter to run. I am a bm hunter 461 ilvl.
Run details. It is generally more accurate.
so… is this not the hunter you ran it on because you are barely above 300 ilvl on this toon. also, keep in mind if you go to different realms on a boss fight (like the last boss in shrine of storms) that some dps meters can’t track other characters.
Believe your score not someone else’s,most meters rely on where you are at than meters for all.
I have actually run 3 dps meters at the same time, Skada, Details, and Recount, not one matched.
Recount usually reads the highest.
Another thing to take into account, is that the distance from party members can cause discrepancies between people’s meters. If you are too far away from each other the damage being done by the other person doesn’t show up in your combat log (which is where the meter gets the numbers from) thus the meter “misses” the damage and reads differently between people even if running the same meter.
don’t worry about overall dps anyway, just the boss fight segments, overall gets inflated with trash pull data. So you might be looking at overall, they might be looking at the fight data.
Details is much more accurate
Recount reads the highest because it doesn’t take into consideration inactivity on mob.
Like seriously I can attack the boss and then or stop attacking, recount will whatever your count was the moment before you stopped. That is entirely incorrect.
To OP, get details. It is tuned to logs and is what anyone serious about numbers uses in game. Skada is okay if you have really old clunker of a machine because it is a bit lighter. Add
This is some of the worst advice yet. There is a reason why we have fortified weeks for keys. Trash damage is still important.
They all the same I tested both details and recount there about the same for dps.
Umm…no.
Mythic+ is not Raiding.
Add pack damage is important. Even on Tyrannical weeks, you are going to do more total damage to the add packs than you will to the bosses.
You have to kill adds in mythic+. A better way to think of it, is that you have to deal X amount of damage to complete the instance. The damage X is split into parts B and C, where B is the total boss damage and C is the total adds damage.
That damage has to be dealt. If your add pack damage sucks, you will slow down the whole group immensely.
Make sure that your add-on is running “Effective Time” and not “Active Time.” I recommend the add-on called “Details” because it’s pretty easy to set up and gives you the option to choose which time basis it uses.
They both track your damage from the combat log, so make sure that you are close enough to your groupmates that your damage shows up on their combat log, if that’s important to you.
They should be pretty close to the same. A better bet is that the OP stood far back and the other player was in melee. With enough distance damage will get dropped by the meter.
This isn’t fully true. Recount has both a DPS and a damage done window. The DPS window will snapshot your highest DPS number but your damage done numbers will reflect your true number (and it puts in parentheses what your average DPS is)
Nobody I know ever looks at the DPS window and only goes by damage done and the DPS there.
That said, Recount and Details never agrees. People claim that details is more accurate overall without actually giving any technical or data-driven reason as to why.
Effective damage done. Details has this in spades more so than an addon that hasn’t decided to leave 2012.
The only reason why you may think details is incorrect when comparing to logs is because warcraft logs filters out damage down on targets that are typically used to pad logs (aka the entirety of skitra fight and a bit of hivemind).
I’m simply comparing details to recount and I don’t care if the ancient addon or the new kid on the block is better. I’m a technical person and people’s feelings or less valuable things like how sharp or flashy something looks is of no interest when it comes to core accuracy.
I’ve no idea why the 2 addons don’t agree. I’m not about to go with the herd though and say by default details is better simply because it is newer. I highly doubt it’s a range or phase thing though since other UI elements can track information like say someone’s health or what buffs/debuffs in real time.
Truth be told I’m not even sure why, after all these years, Blizzard doesn’t just implement their own logging tool and bake it into the game. Just like BG’s throw up a screen at the end of a match, so to can a similar PvE version exist for a dungeon or any other kind of instanced group content.
I can sort of understand why they don’t. They do sort of want the community to drum up support for said things on that end. If they offered first party versions of practically all areas covered by addons, their line of thinking is that the community interest in the game could wane.
I doubt this is the answer either. I think the answer is honestly more boring and cynical even…why do it when others are doing it for free for them?
Addon developers are tripping over themselves to build these features. Why would Blizzard pay their own people to spend time and effort to recreate a wheel when the community is frothing at the mouth to do it for them?
I can see that too. They know how addicted we can be and just let things go until they see our interest drops (bring in more incentive) or gets too big (in which case they nerf/remove thing).
