Need Help Understanding Dungeon Level Matching

I have been unsubscribed for a long time and have recently signed back up. I also have my son and wife playing too. I want to run their characters through a Freehold in BFA for gear with my high level (40 something) DK. Their character level is 20 something. Unfortunately everything for me scales to 40 to match me the mobs for them are 20 something. Im unable to complete the dungeon run because because its basically like im running the dungeon at level and would need other players, specifically a healer. Is there any way to get around the scaling? I want to run them through without issue like the old days

Welcome back! BFA dungeons scale from level 10 to 50, unlike the older expansion dungeons. You would be better off being level 60 with some gear to run others through. At this point, though, you could just queue for the dungeon together normally via group finder until your character surpasses 50. If you surpass 50 and want to continue to queue together until the other party members catch up, you can also activate party sync which would lower your level to 50 and you could still all queue together. You would still gain XP on the backend even though you appear level locked (only if you do have the Shadowlands expansion purchased however).

It’s possibly you could try some older expansion dungeons where the level stops prior to yours.

BFA dungeon levels

If you sort down by dungeons on the instance type, you can see what level each one is suited for normally:

  • Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms (Classic): 10-30
  • Outland and Northrend: 10-30
  • Cataclysm and Pandaria: 10-35
  • Warlords: 10-40
  • Legion: 10-45
  • Battle for Azeroth: 10-50
  • Shadowlands: 50-60

Perfect! Thanks for the reply! Now that I know this I will bring a higher Character into the mix and get them through it.

Did you have party sync activated while trying to do the dungeon? It should scale you to their level.

He’s trying to boost his family. Scaling himself won’t help.
