Need Help Playing Outlaw End Game

So I currently play Outlaw, Hidden Opportunity Build. [Character name is Flexian if you want to look it up to see relevant information regarding build/gear/etc.

I am trying to push into Heroic Raid content. I have made it through 7/8 on Heroic, but some of the latter kills I feel as though I am getting carried along like Bilbo and the crew of dwarves in The Hobbit. I work mechanics, stay alive and do what I can on for DPS.

Unfortunately I have been kicked a couple times now on Silken Court, as the PUG says my DPS is too low. Recently I managed 500k-600k on Brood and Nexus Princess. Obviously this isn’t cutting the mustard.

I understand the rotation, albeit I know I don’t execute it perfectly every time. I think for my gear I should be able to put out a bit more to stay competitive and possibly make it to AOTC.

I currently don’t use any add-ons whatsoever, mostly because I play on a Mac (lol) and haven’t crossed the bridge of how to get it set up yet.

Any advice is appreciated regarding rotation, gear, talents, Strats, flames, etc.

TL;DR
Outlaw Rogue Newb
613 ilvl
500-600k dps, need moar
trying to push content in Heroic Raid, but get the boot at final two
can I do better? if so, how?

THANKS

I find raid fights RNG depending on the strat being used and if you get targeted by raid mechanics and have to move out as melee.

As long as you’re contributing, and killing the boss, I think you’re fine. A dead dps does no dps.

Also, it’s repetition. The more you do the fights the better you become at positioning yourself for the most uptime to do damage.

Don’t get too hung up on numbers. Enjoy the game.

But, if you really wanna DPS, you should play a different class. Rogues, especially Outlaw ain’t so hot right now. Even if you execute the rotation perfectly, you’ll lose to the other DPS classes.

Compare your AR uptime and notice others getting higher are from RB reset.

Use a Weak Aura for buff tracking (because the spec is designed around addons).

Press BTE more in your Subterfuge window. Pool Opportunity to minimize GCDs where Ace doesn’t trigger.

Hint: The spec isn’t HO but Crackshot.

you’re not going to get any useful information on here because everyone here loves to complain about outlaw rather than actually play it to any meaningful degree. Use the resources in ravenholdt discord under outlaw Faq, it tells you everything about rotation, gearing and advanced rules around rtb rolling and opportunity proc use.

I would avoid class discords.

The info is generally good because it needs to be tested, but they devolve into cults of personality very, very quickly.

Caveat emptor.

Thanks, I appreciate your reply! I enjoy Rogue and the Outlaw Spec so I think I want to keep at it.

post that log in the ravenholt discord you’ll find more concrete help instead of “Rng”

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I ran a M+ a bit ago and did almost 900k overall. Not using the “cleave” or “AOE” build on wowhead.

I also punched the dummy a bit for single target while running a dmg meter (just downloaded curse forge). I sat around 750k - 900k , bursting for about 1 mil.

So maybe it is just keeping steady rotation while navigating raid mechanics, etc.

I recommend this. The calculators do have their function, as long as you prefer the spreadsheet build–I mean ‘Optimal build’.

There’s also the caveat of movement in raids and the anecdotal experience of someone dying or setting off raid mechanics that cause you to either move while DPSing or departing uptime completely to try and save the raid ala Silken Court style.

The first question I’d ask is do you have macros set up? I use 4 macros which consist of Sinister Strike, Ambush, Between the Eyes, and Grappling Hook.

For Sinister Strike, Ambush, and Between the Eyes, I have them do the following:

  1. Cast Tricks of the Trade on Tank
  2. Cast Ghostly Strike3.
  3. Cast (Ability being Sinister Strike, Ambush, or Between the Eyes)
  4. Use Trinket

Grappling Hook is a mouse-over macro to avoid spending time clicking.

The next step you can take to improve DPS is pre-pull buffs. While unstealthed 5s on pull timer, Blade Flurry → Stealth → Adrenaline Rush → Slice and Dice → Roll the Bones (at 2 seconds). Make sure you don’t target the boss as Fatebound since you’re going to get both coins and Tails will hit the boss and drop you from stealth. You’ll be able to start fully buffed when the boss pulls and you just focus on your rotation. With the macro above, you’ll be automatically applying Ghostly Strike to your target without thinking about it. Now on your opener after using Ambush, you can pop your first charge of tea to get the Mastery boost for Main Gauche since bad energy RNG shouldn’t be an issue until after the 1st minute of the fight if you have that bad luck. Every time Tea is about to get it’s 3rd charge afterwards, just use it to get the mastery benefit.

You’ll need to improve your Roll the Bones up-time on all the buffs. This is easier done with a Weakaura that tells you when to reroll or just keep tracks of your buff timers since your buff bar will get clogged up with multiple buffs or you want to see the floor instead of the small resource bar in the middle of your screen under your character’s feet. So, to maximize your Roll the Bones buffs, you want to reroll your non-CTO RTB buffs at around 8 seconds so that the next buff set has 38s and you’ll probably want to experiment with rerolling around around 1s - 8s left on the buff timer to find that spot where the CTO buffs don’t get removed since I don’t know them on the back of my hand.

By improving your Roll the Bones buff uptime, you should naturally get a higher Adrenaline Rush uptime. The main buff you want to float as much as possible using Loaded Dice is True Bearing since that’ll get you enough Vanishes to reset the duration of Adrenaline Rush. After that, it’s whatever you consider more important between Skulls and Crossbones vs Broadsides vs Ruthless Precision (for Vanish windows). If you’re curious about rerolling bad buffs, I don’t reroll by bad buffs early, so you’ll have to ask someone more experienced than me on that topic.

That’s my advice for now for your current logs on WarCraftLogs.

Some boss tips I can give:

  1. Ulgrax the Devourer - Hold Vanish and Adrenaline charges on the intermission when the boss goes under until the adds appear and you’re able to get to them safely. Then you’re good to continue using CDs. If you want to get brownie points, you can Cloak of Shadows the web splats on the floor to clear up the muck, but this shouldn’t be an issue until Mythic Difficulty. If you get caught in Web Splats on Mythic, you can Will to Survive it. You can talent into Featherfoot to resist the pull completely when strafing, even on Mythic difficulty. You’ll want to use sprint near the end of Carnivorous Contest’s cast to last the full duration.
  2. Bloodbound Horror - You can Cloak of Shadows the Death Ray that goes around the room to gain uptime on the adds. Focus the Forgotten Harbinger adds first and position yourself as best as you can to cleave the boss. When you get the tentacle mechanic, tap your sidestep movement key (ex. r-click + A or D) and go in a very tight circle. This will save up so much space for everyone else and you don’t have to go 10 miles to the middle of nowhere.
  3. Sikran, Captain of the Sureki - Single Target talents only, its a very straight forward boss fight. Shadowstep after he uses Shattering Sweep, its faster. Swap to cleave talents before you hop on the flyer bois to the next room.
  4. Rasha’nan - Pre-pop Blade Flurry when you see the small mini green circles on like 6+ players which will spawn the adds. Don’t pop Adrenaline Rush or Vanish when the boss is about to fly away.
  5. Nexus Princess Ky’veza - Do the fight as normal, avoid standing ontop of the tank since the boss will make a nether rift on the tank. Have Featherfoot talented to just completely negate the rift mechanic unless there’s about 4 rifts on 1 side of the room. (I could be wrong and the nether rift pull might’ve been nerfed already, but still nice to have).
  6. Broodtwister Ovi’nax - If you want to maximize your DPS here, focus boss, blade flurry the adds. For padding, parasites > worms > spiders, otherwise worms > parasite > spiders. 1st big burst from boss when she drinks the forbidden juice (cough cough Ingest Black Blood cough cough), you can pop feint, then Cloak of Shadows for the 2nd and Feint for the 3rd. Preposition near an egg on the boss before the egg breaking mechanic comes so you don’t have to have that panic moment.
  7. The Silken Court - Cleave Takazj, hold some CDs for the web mechanic when Anub’arash takes double damage when its about to come out. Same case with the Stinging Swarms mechanic on Takazj.
Queen Ansurek should be straightforward as a fight for when to cleave and when not to press Blade Flurry.

The syntax for ground reticle is @cursor.
@mouseover can behave differently.

Great advice overall!
