just as the title says, im torn between these two. I like mages playstyle with casting but not being able to move constantly is a little irritating for me, as where hunter i like the mobilty and field of view but just shooting arrows isnt as exciting to me as a mage shooting big fire meatballs, and as for warrior i think its really engaging and fun but being up close all the time might be a bit crazy, what do you all think?
Warrior is the main class of WoW.
Start there. Make the other classes too, but they will be your alts.
when in doubt hybrid out
Play all three.
You don’t have to devote an equal amount of time to them, but actually playing them will give you a far better idea of what you want out of a class than spitballing based on “yeah, movement is cool but fireballs are cooler”.
Maybe the lack of mobility for Mages (well, relative to Hunters at least) will be a dealbreaker, but the Hunter aesthetic won’t. Maybe you’ll want the option to tank and Warrior will become a more attractive option.
As someone who mains both, I’ma be real honest and say the whole “casting thing” is a bit of a dead meme (hence no new caster classes since vanilla). It took me a couple years but I’m really regretting maining aage for my achievement points now. The whole casting thing just isn’t fun anymore. I also now understand why blizz favours dot based specs for casters since dots go a long way to deleting cast times for caster classes. Spriest, locks, boomkins and such. I think ele sham is the only spec that only has a minor amount for dots so its the closest to mage. Unfortunately for it.
That being said, mage has far more utility than warrior. So there’s that I guess. Also mage has a high skill ceiling. It’s easy to do half the dps of an ilvl 180 mage when your mage has ilvl 200. With warrior, that’s just not gonna happen. But then, when it comes to farming old world content, nothing beats a mage. Not even a boomkin.
Here’s a simple test to solve your conundrum:
- Are you playing mainly PvP? Warrior.
- Are you playing mainly PvE? Mage or Hunter.
- Do you have the attention span of a teaspoon? Hunter.
i wanted to get into both pvp and pve
Mage. They are blizzard favorite child and will always be the top 5 damage dealer. Not to mention they are range and have good utilities ie portal and lust
Why not paladin?
If you don’t pvp a lot and if you’ve never played a mage before you’ll struggle a lot. Hunter is really forgiving, especially BM, and the boringness is somewhat offset by satisfying damage. Freezing traps are stupidly good
Condemn warrior is OP and you’ll get decently far just hitting damage cooldowns but you’ll hit a ceiling where you need to watch your partners debuffs and hp and react in time to save them. Warrior is big dam but their main role atm is utility and thats not for everyone
Always try to write what you intend on doing , other wise you’ve really put a weird option of choices on people.
I always say pick what you enjoy and can keep your interest. Thus wanting to get better and all that stuff.
If you want to do end game with a guild that’ll accept you as warrior, fine but I’ve seen Range classes be a better and more sought after type.
I’ve seen you write warrior you find really engaging and fun so honestly that’s a start.
Yeah the only problem with that is they changed dot based casting, on the main dot based caster (affliction) to be a lot more like fire mage with a burst window and very long cast timers for many of the spells.
As M+ player myself, I want to ask what is your goal?
If you’re in a guild and they just need a DPS slot to be filled in, then try all 3 and pick your favorite.
If you are going to PvP exclusively, best I can suggest is to look at some higher-end ranking tier list and see what’s performing well.
If you want to get KSM, while totally possible, just harder. Current M+ structured in a way to alienate a lot of classes, simply due to current meta.
Every M+ group seeks battle res and Heroism/Lust. Often, x2 battle ress as back up. Common healers are paladin and priest -so that’s neither. Common tanks are Paladin/DH/Monk, so that’s neither either. That leaves only 1/5 slow in every M+ group to serve as a “filler”.
To break it down more in detail:
Tanks fight 1 tank slot.
Healers fight for 1 healer slot.
Lock/DK/Druid (x3)fight for 1 battle res spot.
Shaman/Mage/Hunter (x3) fight for 1 Lust spot.
Warrior/Rogue/Shadow/Ret/Monk/DHH (x6) fight for last slot, implying group won’t just choose 2nd Lust or Brez or meta class for the last slot.
Fire mages are strong S meta. Uncapped AoE makes them really good in M+ push. Even frost in raiding are babe. Hunter’s are generally really good with utility and good self absorb for soaking certain mechanics.
Sure, every class brings something. Warriors got stun/aoe slow/10% AA buff that only benefits other AA based classes. But almost every other class can do the same and some even better.
I don’t want to ruin your experience and you should totally pick the class YOU enjoy the most. There is nothing worse than investing time into something that you hate. Trust me, I know how it feels. I just wanted to bring forward this objective reality.
Warriors are strong. And strong warriors can really dominate the damage meters. A good way to really get to the top of M+ is run your own keys, as the odds getting into groups is lower than if you were a mage or a hunter.
