Greetings fellow rogues. I have a question regarding weapons (currently playing Classic). To my knowledge, it is beneficial to have a slow main hand and a fast offhand.
My current set up is:
MH: One hand weapon
Sword - Outlaw Sabre: 35-67 Damage, 2.7 weapon speed, 18.9 DPS.
OH: One hand weapon
Dagger - Meteor Shard: 23-43 Damage, 1.8 weapon speed, 18.3 DPS.
However, I currently purchased The Butcher for 4g (I know I can sell for later but I can’t help but to equip it since I dinged 26)
Sword: Main Hand Weapon- Sword
The Butcher - 38-72 Damage, 2.8 weapon speed, 19.6 DPS.
The Butcher is the best weapon. However, what do I equip for my offhand? The DPS is better on my Outlaw Sabre, along with 14 atb bonus. But is it necessary to have a fast weapon in my OH even if a much slower weapon with higher dps and swing damage is greater?
Does weapon DPS only matter in your MH for ability attacks?
Another question is, if a fast OH weapon has superior DPS compared to a slow MH, do I use the fast OH with higher dps in my MH and put the lower dps slow weapon in my OH?
Can someone please help me understand what determines what weapon you use in your MH and OH?
Thank you
1.8 is not a fast offhand its just faster than your mainhand. Fast offhand is for PPM mechanics mainly. (IE poisons.) It’s been a long time, but I think the the PPM starts to be noticeably better at 1.5 and faster. With that said overall dps isn’t burst dmg which still matters a ton in classic as far as pvp is concerned and less so with pve.
SO both weapons hitting when you open with say a cheapshot, and both with a chance to crit on their white dmg is going to provide scarier burst with your two largest weapons. However in a fight that can last a while like with a paladin that overall dmg increase for the long fight comes into play like in Pve.
So say you were running an ambush backstab build where you were doing your nastiest dmg coming out of stealth, it would behoove you to run bigger slower backhands for pvp a lot of times. That way in your opener you were chunking peoples health that much more in that same time. (Remembering that rngesus, may bless you with all crits on your first hits when you open)
Pve fast hand is best no question unless there is an agi increase that is increasing your overall crit dodge and attack power past the ppm increase.
Someone correct me if i am wrong. I am digging up knowledge from almost 15 years ago. Lol.

That sounds about right XD . For old school vanilla rogues out there it looks like Shadowpanther is back and updated for Classic. There’s a section on weapon speed and weapon dps choices which should answer your questions
