Need an entirely new system for gearing

So many (game is dead) posts. Like, a lot of them. A lot of people saying it’s impossible to find tanks and healers a lot of people saying no groups during peak times. The list goes on.

It’s becoming clear that people don’t wanna grind…everyone wants everything to be insanely fast. Nobody wants to actually play the game anymore.

They should try for one season to just give everyone free bis gear. Let them forge it with whatever stats they want and then content doesn’t drop gear it drops currency to reforge it as you see fit. If I knew I didn’t have to worry about gear and I could mess with stats to change things occasionally I would actually want to be engaged in the content rather than just trying to fly through it for a reward. This…I need everything now mentality is clearly what the players want. Why not just try a new system cause clearly the way it’s working now is not keeping people happy.

I like the idea of being able to sort stats. We’ve got something close to that now, in Dornagal(?) where you can attach the class skills to armor, but we haven’t a say in what the stats become. Why not let us use the same items we use to craft in that machine to determine stats?

That in itself would be huge I think. It’s a great idea.

Gear is so boring in WoW. There is very little build diversity within specs when it comes to gear. You basically just juggle a few secondary stats around.

The devs have a winning formula for the way WoW’ end game is structured, they ain’t going to change it now. WoW players are too obsessed with meters, M+ ratings and parsing to actually have more diversity with gear.

They pretty much did most of that in S4 of DF and it simply crash the season way early since there’s no chase. As far as M+ goes numbers have probably been one of the most stable. I expect people to quit once they feel like they’re done, making it quicker only makes people who would like it to take longer to quit sooner.

Tbf, people have been claiming WoW is dead since vanilla. I treat it as white noise at this point.

I don’t think we should be handed our bis gear, but I do think there’s probably ways to make gearing more interesting.

You’re part of the I want everything now mentality LOL and I can bet all my gold that if you were given everything BIS of your class, you would stop playing after 2-3 hrs tops.

There is nothing more boring than your “idea” for a game.

Need to be a way to backlist gear slot(s) for the GV. That way we don’t get vault crap that we don’t need and feel like we wasted an entire week.

I’m not opposed, but I think activity will plummet after a week.

It’s like playing on PTR.

I’d like a sort of tool that you can use near the testing dummies.

Something that allows you to explore what different stat configurations will look like. I’m always curious why stacking the snot out of versatility doesn’t do more, tbh.

I’ve always wanted them to give us a white piece of base gear. Then as we do stuff you get items that upgrade that gear how you want. So instead of items dropping you get reagents that you use with professions to create and upgrade your gear.
So when you do mythics you are guaranteed to get something to upgrade your gear. Even if it’s just a tiny bit.

I never thought it was realistic that all these mobs dropped swords and pieces of gear. It’s like Diablo 4 when you kill Uber bosses, the floor is littered with useless items.

Beyond transmogs what is the point of gear? How long will it take before people understand gear with stats is pointless. Game should be based on skill. Nothing else.

That’s sounds fun

You can run sims. It’s not quite as good as real time dummy testing but it’s directionally correct.

We just did this. Its was called “MoP remix”, we’re doing it again soon.

The singular problem with handing out BiS gear is that (as witnessed by these forums), the majority of the player base play the game for a single, primary purpose: Get more gear.

Lose that incentive and folks stop playing.

Many folks (like myself) when they plateau with gear, they “stop playing”. Either by just dialing back activity, stopping completely, or perhaps leveling an alt.

Right now, there’s zero motivation to level an alt for me, the profession grind doesn’t make it worth while, and all of the content is the same. May as well wait until the last 3rd of the expansion, when “free gear” is raining from the sky, and binge level them all then.

So, we’ve have “free BiS” gear system before. And they’re a flash in the pan.

I’d rather have borrowed power, to be honest.

The point isn’t to get gear. The point is to develop your character through gameplay and have the sense of increasing your power. Gear is just the most obvious way to do that. Anything fundamentally different, you’re no longer talking about an RPG. Maybe you should play a different game.

Star Wars: the Old Republic has an amazing gearing system. There are no gear “types” and most of the collection items are all empty slots with no stats. So, you can get any armor you like in game, and wear it or mog it:

Then, once you equip it, you simply add the items to the correct slots to get the stats you need or want to start playing

As you run Flashpoints (Dungeons) and Operations (Raids), the new enhancement items drop, or can be crafted to push your item level and stats to max for your level. This means any class or spec can wear whatever gear suits their aesthetic style, and only the stats change through upgrades.

Actually I don’t mind either way I’m still gonna play. The only reason I do content any ore isnto get geared enough to see it all once then i fart around with collecting or making other toons or whatever. Been fishing a lot lately. If I didn’t have to think about my gear I would be queuing for everything I was able to and still enjoying the rest of the game. When 85 to 90% of the time I spend on game is just literally hoping I get that next little increase …that’s actually what drives me personally away faster than anything. When I start to feel I’ll never complete a character or get into the hardest difficulty stuff…that’s when I stop playing and wait for next season. Maybe I’m just a minority but that is the truth.

I say just make 99% of loot in this game deterministic like it is in PvP.

I’ve wanted this for a long time.

Another idea is to make whatever content locks BiS gear really easy. Like normal raids or something.

Stop simping for star wars. That game sucks.
