If there’s a problem that still persists, however a forum thread of addressing such already died quite awhile ago, do you let sleeping dogs lie or would you merely recreate a similar thread & post the original in the comment to establish a link?
Because there’s a few things that are irksome that don’t get addressed and cheese off large portions of the community yet there’s often smaller yet loud members that dismiss the concepts or ideas of them being addressed & fixed … This could be from wounds in lore, to faults in gameplay or straight up bugs that prevent from pushing further until it’s erupted to outrage — Or merely moved around of through another means.
I see some people post on classic toons (I’d rather not stoop to such levels unless its a thread about classic WoW) to disguise their ownership towards other similar threads as ‘work arounds’ yet that honestly looks like a cheap method of poking the above issues.
Examples of what I’m talking about:
There was a bug-report thread that was necromanced a few times, until the ‘work around’ method was merely it eventually being past expansion content. This thread was about the (ironically) Necromancers bug – In the Island Expeditions of BFA. They’d all be untargetable & thus their loot unobtainable until they were slain.
An example of a topic I’d personally – Like to addressed would be the void-situation regarding Blood Elves (Generalising that any elf who so much as treats with the void is exiled, thus Belf Shadowpriests are not canon – Statement was made prior to the existence of void elves).
Warglaives being used by more than just Demon Hunters (Which I agree, is quite silly)
Player housing (Rather unopinionated about that subject myself personally)
Racial questlines
Aaaand I’m sure there’s other threads that pop up time to time that make good points, but you get the picture.
So — Let this be a vent thread!
Do you believe already-made-threads should be allowed to be necro’d or recreated? If so (or not) – Why?
What’s an idea YOU would like to revive or be addressed officially by a blue, or at least discussed furthermore by the community?
The locked / deleted threads thing seems rather obvious & makes sense, but it’s intriguing about the ‘Duplicate Threads’ subject and whether or not – Like you said, it’s related to “Inactive” topics …
As stated, if the issue is still at hand (Such as a bug) or it’s even a subject / topic that still hasn’t been addressed and the game has had a dry-spell & thus the forum threads have been a tad slow too — Then those topics may have been inactive for awhile.
I mean, I had a ‘New Notification!’ for a reply that was made to me —
10 Months Ago!
I didn’t realise until someone else pointed it out when I had made a response, and I came to realise I necro’d a thread myself (Accidentally - I might add)
So, I’m sure that I am not the only one that’s happened towards and that’s potentially why there’s a handful of necro’d threads at the moment lol
I mean, that’s something I’d always considered odd – If necroing threads WAS against the CoC then they should honestly just implement that system forward.
… However that being said – As mentioned above in the thread, sometimes the topic or problem is still relevant & it’d be far more practical to merely revive the thread that’s already been created other than re-create the thread several times until it either gets addressed or a blue pops up on one of the threads and shouts a response. lol
Yeah I’ve seen that.
However the above comment situation still stands, along with the contemplation of ‘How long is too long?’
That being said, with the new forum layout – People have been getting ‘new’ notifications all over the place and necroing threads unaware & accidentally. Heck, from another thread there was a guy who had the same ordeal with the ‘new’ notification and was only stopped thankfully to the warning system that popped up for the
‘ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO REVIVE A 3 YEAR OLD THREAD?’
Made me thankful my accidental necro was only 10 months
However those that are sizzling under the barrier of the warning pop-up could still necro various threads for notifications that are presented as new, but are in fact rather old.
I think 2 months is a fair length. If no one reply by that time then that thread should be closed but can still be seen for atleast 1 or 2 year ( since that’s how long an xpac last)
Since the forum update, heaps of threads have been resurrected well ahead of 2 months lol
Accidentally I’d say ofcause, but yeah. Although as stated if there’s still some rather impactful lore fractures in the story needing to be addressed or bugs that haven’t been fixed despite long periods of time passing — I’d wager them to be resurrected or recreated wouldn’t be too far fetched.
Naturally, there’s also various newly created threads may appear similar but are created anew, due to going about the subject in a very different manner or with a new idea to push as the focus of achieving X goal or resolution / accomplishment.
I just thought about how funny it was that I made this thread, and then not so long after a forum update incurs that tells heaps of people they got ‘new’ notifications from stuff ages ago, making them necro a whole heap of threads.
This is one of the sillier rules imo. If people got punished every time a new post was created on something discussed before, hardly any posts would be made at all.
On the OP’s topic - the problem with commenting on very old posts to bring them to the front page is that often the information on them is out of date. And frequently they are replying to people who commented months or even years ago, and who are quite likely to not even be playing anymore. The topics may be inaccurate or problematic even.
On the whole, its better to create a fresh post if you feel you have something new or interesting to add to the general discussion on the matter. It’s a bit of a “nail on blackboard” reaction for many people to see a very old post revived for no good reason.
If the thread is dead, let it be dead. If there’s a relevant piece of info just quote it in the new thread. Too many people who were part of an old discussion who will never respond if replied to / quoted if the thread is revived months later. And people don’t really check dates on threads most of the time, so that kind of thing comes up a lot every time someone decides to necro a thread.
