So as I’m sure most of us know, there are some players out there who want and like to role-play one of their characters as Necromancers (I count myself as one of them). So here’s what I’d like to propose, why not have a role-play Guild for the purposes of teaching Necromancy to others who want to learn? There would be teachers, students, guards, and undead minions who can participate in various Necromantic activities and events based on the theme of learning the dark art of Necromancy!
If this idea sounds intriguing, I would like this forum to be used to discuss what that could look like in greater detail! If it’s too niche and there are not as many players out there who want to do such RP, that’s fine too. It’s only an idea after all!
Update!
As of now, Scholam Mortis (guild name credit to Talliona) is officially formed and is actively recruiting! Anyone who whishes to join need only ask here or in-game and we’ll evaluate where you want to be as part of the guild! We still need a Headmaster and a few Council Members! Teachers, students, and guards, we’re always looking for those!
For cross-faction or those who don’t wish to/can’t join the guild at this time, there is a Community made and open to everyone who wishes to RP as Necromancers or dabble in Necromancer RP! The Community is called “Scholam Mortis School of the Dead” or use the link below. It is currently open for anyone to join!

This is pretty much the premise of Scholomance. It was a school run by the Cult of the Damned to train up necromancers for the Scourge.

Precisely my thoughts, only it wouldn’t be run by Scourge Necromancers this time. Scholo would be the setting for the academy if more than 5 players can enter the same dungeon instance.
Evil stinky Necromancers! You are an affront to the people of Dalaran.
And you can be sure that we will stink up the place even maor! >:3
… Just not as evil this time, I promise. <3
Scoffs "Wretched Mages. Seekers of knowledge, Hah! More like Abductors of Truth! A great Teacher once said,
“Fix your eyes upon your crude hands: the sinew, the soft meat, the dark blood coursing within. It is a weakness; a crippling flaw… A joke played by the Creators upon their own creations. The sooner you come to accept your condition as a defect, the sooner you will find yourselves in a position to transcend it.”
“Consider me intrigued by your proposal.”
I like the idea! It has potential to be very fun. There are a couple questions that come to mind: Since necromancy is the goal, would it be neutral?
What is the code of ethics for this school on what necromancy is acceptable and what isn’t?
Where will it be based out of?
These and more are great to think about :3

Oh, I had an idea very similar to this during SL. Unfortunately I was never really able to manifest, but I wish you luck in the endeavor.
Yes, the idea would be that all the Necromancers would be primarily neutral. That doesn’t mean though that they couldn’t serve their respective faction, specifically the Alliance or Horde, since the Scourge and the Cult of the Damned is practically - if not completely - gone from the world.
Hmm… the code of ethics that immediately come to mind would be that there would be no enslavement of the risen sentient dead. Any undead that are risen with any amount of their memories intact would have to be treated as the individual wishes to be treated (like how the Forsaken are risen).
Also, if anyone plans to raise any sentient dead (like Death Knights, Forsaken, etc.), that they first get permission from the higherups such as the Headmaster, any directly under his/her instruction (basically the council), or also the Ebon Blade which I figure some members could actually be present primarily to observe and protect.
Since the Cult of the Damned are basically not around anymore, the starting place could be Scholomance since the atmosphere is perfect for the whole Necromancy School theme. Alternatively, if Scholo can’t have more than 5 players in the same instance, I was thinking that the Naxxramus or Karazhan Raid would make for the next best place to hold classes. Failing all that however, I’d be open to suggestions that don’t involve having to use any cleared out Dungeons, Raids, or other such instances if we want it to be in the world itself.

Bless up. I’d RP as a Necromancer on my main and I’ve always loved the theme. I’m fully in support of this concept it’s really cool.

Alright! Well, for those who are on board with the idea, what would be the name of the guild? I felt the the name “Necromancy Academy” was a bit too bland. The name would have to be indicative to the theme of the guild, but still pop out as an interesting name keeping in mind that this is a neutral school simply learning a dark art for the sake of knowledge and (most likely) bounty hunting when graduated… or whatever other pursuits the Necromancer wishes to follow as long as it isn’t intended for nefarious deeds… hopefully. X3
Just remember, the name can only have 24 characters in total (including spaces).

Ooh, love that idea! I’m gonna put Scholam Mortis on a charter for now, since the rest wouldn’t fit. BUT, if there are other ideas anyone else wants to post before we make it final, say so and we can discuss!
Also, I probably wouldn’t want to be the leader of the guild. If anyone else here would like to take on the mantle of Headmaster, I’d be down to hear out potential candidates!

As someone who is building up a group of necromancers (Cultists of the Damned though) in Duskwood, I hope to see this go well!
Hey, I’m a Cultist of the Damned. We should be friends.

Are you planning on being evil Cult of the Damned members? Or would you be neutral? Because if you were neutral, we could pool our Necromancer players.

Oh we are most certainly evil. The Cult of the Damned is inherently evil after all. Even during (gag) Shadowlands we saw it in the pre-patch return to serve the Mawsworn. We’re more along the lines of the “OG” members from Lordaeron. Incognito, working together to both cleanse the land and promising power, knowledge, and immortality through undeath to new members, recruits, acolytes, etc etc.
No matter what though, Necromancers need love! Even neutral ones.
Hmm… perhaps the School wouldn’t share in the ideals entirely with the Cult of the Damned, but they’d still at least respect each other and work things out amicably when encountering each other. Perhaps the school doesn’t have to be part of any faction, and doesn’t care where people want to go with their Necromancy.
Maybe some Necromancers from the school could be recruited into the Cult?

Since I got no other suggestions for a guild name, I went with Scholam Mortis. I’m currently recruiting to see if anyone wants to join! I’m still looking for a Headmaster and council members, but I’ll gladly take students and teachers right now too!
A few noteworthy mentions:
-
Canonically, Necromancy is neither good nor bad, t is simply a type of magical manipulation over Life & Death and has been fueled by Fel, Void, and even recently, Light! So factions, races, classes, alignments, Necromancy can be Neutrally binding.
-
Rather than a Guild, why not build a Community. With the Community feature as well as Discord, you can draw in many interested parties while not limiting or forcing them to choose a specific guild. There are Discords such as Discord of the Damned and the Left Hand Path to reach out to and build community relations with.

Obviously Scholomance makes the most sense for a school setting, but with Dungeon and even raid grouping for Karazhan, it can be limiting, so keep world locations a top priority. Acherus in WPL is accessibly to both factions and all classes, simply head to Lights Hope and fly on up. Also, there is an overlook balcony above the training dummy you can access as well, giving you 3 tiers of RP space.
Lastly, and as a side note to locations, There is always the infamous Catacombs beneath Karazhan! Although access is restricted to the more dedicated players. The Lucid Nightmare chain ends with the mount, but also gives the character completing it full access to the Catacombs forever!
