Necromancer; Not a Class but a Spec

Here’s a thought I just had based on a conversation in the Shaman forums. What if the Shaman had the Necromancer spec, rather than making it a total class. Before you rage post, here’s why I was thinking this:

  1. The Shaman is the witch doctor-esque class of the game. Albeit a bit neutered at the moment, but that’s what it’s supposed to be.
  2. The put a lot of emphasis on the Ancestors and they already use Elementals which is basically a reskin of the Necromancer from D2’s Golems.
  3. Curves, debuffs, purges are all inline with the Shaman. And in terms of an ostensible inverse spec from the others, this wouldn’t be far off from Holy/Shadow priest.
  4. This would prevent that new class from stealing moves from Shaman, Warlocks, and DKs. It would allow for the class to fully embrace the hybrid nature of itself as it’s Druid-cousins have, and would only serve to enhance the existing class as it’s already defined.

I personally think it’s the best avenue forward, but I’d love to hear what others think.

No thank you.

If we are to get a 4th Specialization, it would be something akin to the Earth Spirits.

Restoration - Water/Earth
Elemental - Air/Fire
Enchancement - Air/Fire
4th specc - Earth/?

Necromancers do not fit in this.

Just because you’re the prettiest cow on the forums doesn’t mean I won’t notice you just made this up.

It’s not a bad idea … after all, wasn’t Gul’dan originally a shaman? Weren’t he and Ner’zhul the ones who brought the discipline into the world in the first place?

I would agree with Shaman Necromancer!
It would fit with Lore and would be cool !

Well, thank you for the compliment,

But, how is this made up?

Restoration Shamans are masters of Water Spirits, and use Earth spirits for protection.

Elemental shamans hold mastery over air and fire, just more fire than air

Enchancement shamans also hold mastery of air and fire, but more air than fire

Any potential 4th specc I think would be more akin to being primary Earth element, with secondary being water.

Your suggestion really feels like it fits warlocks more than Shamans.

Or heck, death knights unholy specc was something near a necromancer isn’t it?

Zalazane is a shaman who use necromancy and raise the death.

There are a lot of “dark” shamans in Azeroth.

Shaman would not get it over warlocks or dks.

I’ll never understand people saying Warlocks have anything to do with death magic. They’re fel, they use demons.

Zalazane was as follows as per the wiki: Class Warlock, Witch Doctor, Hexmaster, Sorcerer.

Not a shaman.

Witchdoctor =! shaman

Affliction is heavily tied to death magic. They even have an ability called Deathbolt.

Can we just be direct with each other. I laid out in-game evidence for my argument. I feel like you’re just saying what you want.

This is directly from the wiki though?

I"m not just saying whatever I want. Zalazane hasn’t been classified as a shaman. :frowning:

You said it classifies him as this: Class Warlock, Witch Doctor, Hexmaster, Sorcerer

His title on that wiki is Hexmaster. Only one class hexes. And the lore people aren’t in-game class specific.

Not only should it be Earth based, but it should be a tanking spec. I want a better reason to be carrying a shield, dangit.

3 things are wrong with this.

  1. Warlocks are not exclusively fel. They use the fel and the void and arguably the void more so.
  2. Death magic is decay and literal death not necromancy and UNdeath, void is used for necromancy says chronicles.
  3. We just got done battling the legion who had a crap ton of necromancer warlocks raising souls on the spot.

Eh… not quite.

Gul’dan was originally just an outcast, his lack of ability made him weak to the temptation of the legion.

Ner’zhul is the one who was originally a Shaman.

To be honest I’m really not a fan of specs as they are now, so I would prefer necromancer be a class.

But I’m biased against specs :stuck_out_tongue:

DKs already have a necromancer spec

It’s called Unholy

Let’s assume it was changed to Witch Doctor which (to me) is the same thing with Blizzard. Same problem or is that more flexible?
