I played as a Necromancer in Diablo. I liked the class. You get to use ranged magic spells as well as AOE magic spells. Can siphen-life. and you get to summon the dead to do your melee fighting for you. These dead minions run around with you as your own personal squad. If they die you just summon more.
Some have mentioned that Death Knights are kinda like de facto Necromancers. But DK are really a melee class. They do have temporary minions (pets) but those pets are beyond goofy looking.
What I would like to see is a True Necromancer Class. I wonder why Wow doesn’t have one already?
I would love to hear suggestions as to how Blizzard could make a True Necromancer Class for Wow. And what that would require. What type of builds: Permanent pets, minions, spells and abilities, etc.

Dks and Warlocks would get decimated for a necromancer class to exist.
If they went the blood route for necromancers it could be doable but that’s only 1 spec.

Necro in d3 wasn’t fun. They made it overpowered and part of the meta because they wanted to make money. Was very disappointed to see the necro as final class in D4.
First of all you are forgetting warlocks who on top of death knights both fill these roles. Wow’s art style being “goofy” is a simple result of you comparing it to Diablo’s art style. Diablo is dark, grim and raw, wow is a cartoony fantasy.
You mention siphon life, locks already do this, you mention summoning the dead, literally DK’s have a perma undead ghoul pet. Lock’s pets they summon (while they are demons) do all the meleeing for them. They literally have their own personal squad have you ever seen a demo lock with his army? Or an unholy DK with his army summoned? Also they just summon more if any die.
Everything you mention we already have a style of in the world of Azeroth, if you want a dark grim Necro, wait until D4 and live that out in Sanctuary its not a good fit here and the roles are already filled.

This is a position few understand.
One cannot simultaneously clamor for “class identity” and then introduce a necromancer when in most fantasy lore, “necromancer” and “warlock” very often occupy the same space on pages…synonymous even.

If demon hunters and rogues can coexist and paladins and priests and shamans and Druids then there’s enough room in that space for a necromancer.
And since they’ve invented the “mid range” type, might as well fill that space. D3 style necromancer could be a good fit.

Wow. I think it is safe to say you are one of the few who think that. Completely fine, but odd.
Im only cool with necromancers if they go full shadowlands with them. A spec inspired by each of the four covenants.
If all necromancers are just plaguey bois, we got death knights for that.
They just need to rework Unholy DK into a minions build using undead and by that I mean Demonology Warlock levels of minions.
Give demo locks a glyph that changes their demons into undead. Boom necromancer.

I dunno about a whole separate class for it… but IMO a DK Necro spec would be cool.
Yeah but that would be still be a DK. Not a whole new class, which as it stands is 2 specs at least as the status quo
I would prefer a race of sentient mountain gorillas (can only tank or dps).
Wasn’t a fan of necro in d2 either but it was fun to play once in a while. D3 as a whole made me mad because of meta groups to push rifts, a barbarian in Diablo should never be pigeon holed into a zero dps spec to be invited to groups.
Necromancers are just trash tier Warlocks, Death Knights, and Liches in WoW. A stepping stone to a higher power.
With how difficult it is to balance the amount of classes & specs we currently have, do we really want to open this pandoras box?
I think the next step to Blizzard is not to create more classes, but create more specs, that would be something refreshing!
DK range dps spec (necromancer)
Shaman tank spec
Mage healer spec
Evoker tank spec
Etc
Not sure which box that is the 2 specs thing or the new class thing? I’m not for a necro class just don’t see it happening
First of all you don’t even have a concept of what these classes are or represent if you think this.
Lets start with rogue and DH, Rogues are the thief archetype simple done. While Demon Hunters sit very much in the scarred malformed abomination they are, servants of Illidan’s legacy, tainted by a curse and forever outsiders, they sacrifice everything for power which they use, they are demons in their heart and souls in order to fight other demons, never appreciated forever scarred. Nothing alike a Rogue which is literally just a thief.
Pally and Priest are even easier Priests just wield the power of “faith” to harm or heal, Paladins channel all kinds of different powers of the light, ie: there are night elf pallys that use the moon power, blood elves channel the sunwell for power for their paladins and so on. Nothing like a Priest, also one is caster/cleric the other is a holy warrior/crusader, pretty simple.
Shamans are literally just warlocks that don’t have power of the shadow element, warlocks can channel all magics outside of arcane (which is what makes mage unique). Druids don’t channel the elements in the same way at all they follow the path of nature and gain power from nature in and of itself.
Learn the lore please before you speak things you do not know.
