Just enquiring if anyone else is rolling this way, Ive got arcane harmony and bombardment legendaries, unsure where to fit them into rotation. Not overly keen on Kyrian spark build and liked the bone mage
Harmony is t really viable outside of the Kyrian build. Your best bet is to go bombardment until you get timewarp leggo
Timewarp leggo seems annoying, in ideal situations yes
I wish arcane had a multipurpose jack of all trades legendary, Fire and Frost got off so much easier
Yeah, unfortunately Arcane is SoL in that department. Not only is there no decent multipurpose legendary but there isn’t a good ST one either. The only one that comes close is Harmony but it doesn’t really shine outside of the Kyrian build. You can still use it of course but it won’t be nearly to the same effect. Temporal Warp is sadly very situational although it does work nicely on Sylvanas for this tier just because of the sheer length of that fight. Siphon Storm is the only other option but that one requires you to be Venthyr. There’s really no go to legendary for NF or Necro so you just have to make due with what you have.
That’s why I said “screw it” and went with Bombardment and only stuck to M+ last season. This time around I am not even bothering with that. Only playing through the story quests for a few more weeks until they all unlock and then I am probably not even going to be playing much until 9.2, assuming that also isn’t a train wreck.
Well I just crafted the rank 6 cloak at considerable cost and am waiting on the soul whateverthehellitis to get to 1600 to make it. I don’t have the time to raid anymore as I don’t even get home from work until 7pm or later so m+ is all I have.
I refuse to covenant swap because a) as soon as I do they’ll buff NF and nerf Kyrian or Venthyr, b) I’ve invested too much in getting my forest creatures pimped and c) screw their system. I definitely feel the ST crunch as NF but if I get a boss that doesn’t require me to move every 2.3 seconds I can still do alright. Nothing to write home about but passable. My goal anymore is collect pets and mounts and try to get a group to take me though heroic raids when possible. Failing that I’ll have to become an LFR hero and at my age that’s not the worst. My mythic raiding days are long behind me so I guess I’ll live with my $$$$$ bombardment cloak.
Precisely. How do they expect us to have any confidence in this system when they literally flipped it on its head the very first time they did a tuning pass whilst knowing full well how time prohibitive switching is because, wait for it, they designed it that way!
I am not one to pull out the tinfoil hat but it’s really hard not to think it was all kinda done on purpose to trick people into keeping the hamster wheel going because there’s nothing else to do in the game (besides collecting the 10,000 new mount recolors they added with SL)… Of course it’s equally plausible that they simply can’t do any better because covenants were just a horrible system to begin with and that’s truly a depressing thought about the state of the game. /sigh
I have not tried it yet, but if i was to play necro again, I would use the new legendary to take full advntage of deathborne.
Necrolord Death’s Fathom: Your Fireball, Frostbolt, and Arcane Blast have a chance to grant Deathborne for 8 sec. While in the form of a skeletal mage the spell damage granted is increased by 1% for each enemy hit by Fireball, Frostbolt, and Arcane Blast. its my understanding the other conduit bonus applys aswell. nice passive boost.
If you’re talking about Emeni’s power, it does proc when you transform for the duration of the initial transform. Additional procs don’t seem to lengthen that and I’m not sure if they fixed it so you get a slime on proc yet.
But to OP what Tinkle speaks of I was going to ask if it would be worth trying.
Good point, the one I was thinking of is Carver’s Eye - Damaging an enemy above 90% health grants you 152 Mastery for 5 sec, up to 5 stacks. You cannot gain this benefit from the same target for 10 sec. - i think this works with the arcane cleave, but not sure.
Also another one i wanted to try was Lead by Example : “Activating your Necrolord class ability increases your by 5% and nearby allies’ primary stat by 2% for 10 sec. You gain 5% additional for each ally affected, up to 15%.” unclear if this works with the procs, i was told in beta it did, but i have not circled back.
I may have worded my post poorly, yes, the Lego proc does activate Emeni for all it’s benefit except duration.
I wish the Necrolord ability was more viable. Being able to turn into a skeletal
Mage seems so cool.
I consider it to be thematically the coolest of all covenant abilities for the mage class (kyrian more fun to play with, venthyr boring, but safe and night fae having the best visual aesthetic).
That 3 minute cd is just a problem to me.
Agreed.

This is something that Blizzard should add as a talent in a new row after this expansion. With a shorter cd (2minutes), of course.
That would be a great idea to replace Overpowered/Kindling/Thermal Void. Instead of giving boring passive buffs the talents could instead upgrade your respective cooldown and give you a cool visual to go along with it. A D3 Archon type visual for Arcane, Frost becoming encased in a suit of ice armor, and Fire can turn into a Phoenix like that one boss from Battle for Dazar’alor.
P.S. I personally hate the skeletal mage visual of the Deathborne covenant ability. It should have used the lich model.
No. Not replace those, just add another row.
I’m currently playing around with Necro mage. I only play m+, and currently if you’re necro Arcane it’s best with the necro legendary, though it is outdone in basically all ways by Necro Frost with either Freezing Winds or necro lego. Even when there’s only 3 targets lol. With lower # of targets, Freezing winds is better, the more targets you add, the better the necro lego is with frost.
Necrolego arcane is not terrible damage though, it’s outdone by frost but not so bad that you’re trolling by playing it. If you want to play necro in dungeon content and the classic arcane Blastin rotation instead of weird barrage things, necro lego arcane is solidly OK dmg, as far as I’ve seen in my sims (simmed a lot for all 3 specs across all covs). Even Necro lego arcane’s single target is actually quite healthy, it just falls off pretty hard around 2 mins, whereas Kyrian bounces back and does better prolonged single target.
If the necro lego received a tiiiny buff, either dmg% granted, or duration of proc, or proc by ALL spells instead of just fireball/frostbolt/ab, or some sort of CDR effect added… even if the stinking necro conduit maybe APPLIED TO THE PROC… this lego would be a real contender, a good (and fun!!) alternative to other playstyles without eclipsing them.
edit: Worth mentioning, Harmony also still sims pretty highly even as necro too, looks like it sort of criss crosses with necro lego depending on fight length and # of enemies. And Bombardment is always good if you’re not doing super high level content where stuff dies fast.
That sounds like something I would want to try, I have a few questions if your open to an opinion? Would your build value haste or at least burst haste with a trinket within the deathbone windows? Does haste impact the proc rate? If so have you tried out time anomaly? Does nether precision add value for a 9% or more increase to AB on the cleave ? Sorry for all the question, it’s an interesting build for me, as it is traditional it still has windows of opportunity
Oh they’re never adding another row. That part of the game is going to continue being frozen in time for whatever reason they’ve convinced themselves is necessary. The only way new talents are coming in is they replace old ones. It’s unfortunate but I don’t see them changing their mind on that point.
On a side note, the reason why those 3 talents are so strong is never because of the talents themselves but always because of the way they interact with expansion specific system. So that’s largely hit and miss, it’s exactly why no one used Kindling and Thermal Void last expansion but everyone is using them this time around (in this case the conduits and covenants).
That said, I don’t particularly care how something like that gets implemented. I just like the idea while also trying to be realistic about it.
I agree. We kind of see it with frost and fire mages refusing to take talents that isn’t their cd reduction ones…
I only switch with incanter’s flow and and enlightened while in korthia. I did use this combo once in a mythic+ which did bring out some very good results on trash, but completely sucked cow dung on bosses.
