Necro topic: blacksmithing

Blacksmithing and to an extent all other professions had monetary, progressive or exclusive percs

Today I just found out that you don’t have to be a black smith to utilize folded steel plating (%15 DR) or charged weigh stone. The socketed raid mythic belt/pants 90% is nothing exclusive and soul bound. That hurts us in making money AND supporting alts. Hell the req and mats to forge it is a hefty price for something that is arguably more cosmetic.

Please blizzard we smiths are a simple folk, we don’t need need simple half baked excuses (hits head with k’haz hammer) bring back sharpening stones, epic BoE (titansteel) socket belts, oh and how about I get to use my forge again? Something about my hammer I guess can form metallic bars from raw ore using nothing but an anvil? Bring back smelting!

Gotta agree, BS definitely needs to get something useful gameplay wise, worthless armor that is worse than world quests.

And the only semi useful armor is limited to TWO pieces and requires a timegated grind.

The armor is no longer good, the weapons are trash, Blaskmisthing needs something worthwhile

They did that on purpose.

Back in the day, a warrior/plate person felt they had to be a Smith.

Cloth caster felt they had to be a tailor.

Blizzard didn’t want to pigeonhole people into feeling they had to have a particular trade, if they were a particular class. They even went as far as nerfing things like Engineering, which I felt my Hunter HAD to be.

So now my characters are Herb and Mine; Go tradeskills!

Well, my 120 priest is the last holdout. She still has Enchanting and tailor, since those are kind of convenient for all of your characters (and bothering to make hexweave bags, like ever.)

i signed up for blacksmithing back when i could still add sockets to my gear and make cool belt buckles

You have a point, just because I’m a warrior should not force me into blacksmithing, it’s just because I’m a blacksmith I’m forced to take a profession other others that provide significant advantages

Yeah therein lies the issues with armor crafting professions. There’s no way to balance them without making them either mandatory for their respective armor type’s class or negligible for their gear progression.

Imo, armor crafting professions should be turned into secondary professions, so Blizz can balance them to be meaningful without players feeling like they have to give up other primary professions.

Crafting gear does seem useless most of the time, not just blacksmithing, but all of them. Better gear for your alts can be obtained with 5 manpearls from your main and takes a lot less work than leveling your profession. This needs to be changed. Crafted gear needs to be relevant without being overpowered.

Also, soul bound mats need to go. There is no reason they shouldn’t be account bound.
