Naxx gear in TBC

Wondering how far along levels 60-70 and post 70 (dungeon farm pre raid bis) does Naxx gear last? Each class tier set may be different with set bonus’s.

Specifically warrior T3, is that set used for tanking heroics/Kara or does most or all of the Naxx gear get replaced during levelling/quest rewards/profession made armor & weapons?

Naxx gear lasts a long time and for most people, assuming the gear is relevant to your spec, will carry you most of the way to 70. Consider some of the AQ40 pieces for Feral:

Guise of the Devourer

  • 276 Armor
  • 36 Stamina
  • 19 Agility
  • 17 Strength
  • 13 Dodge Rating

–vs–

Wastewalker Helm

  • 237 Armor
  • 30 Stamina
  • 22 Critical Strike Rating
  • 18 Hit Rating
  • 57 Attack Power
  • Blue Socket
  • Meta Socket

The latter helm is a drop from Epoch Hunter in Old Hillsbrad Heroic. And yes I realize the Armor value on Guise is off from how it is in Classic but I want to say the “bonus armor” items got a pass during TBC that added/subtracted armor values here and there. Regardless in terms of raw Armor and Effective Health, Guise, an AQ40 piece, lasts well into lvl70.

Most Naxx items will last at least till running 5 man heroic dungeons.

An easy way to tell would be to compare a pre raid Prot Warrior BIS list to some of the T3 pieces. While the gearing process in TBC isnt as linear there are plenty of sources that will list at least the top 3-5 items that you should shoot for when gearing for pre kara.

This is the correct response. It wont compete with most 25 raid gear, but it will be OK 60-69. There are some select items that can last quite a bit longer; i remember neltharion’s tear still being raid quality at 70.

when you think about it, it wont reduce the amount of time you’ll spend in dungeons because you’ll still have to farm rep

But with Naxx gear being compatible to Heroic 5 man’s, you will be able to get your Heroic keys faster since you will out gear the content that gets you there.

Then once in the Heroic dungeon, you won’t need to farm as much since only a few items will be dramatically better.

You will have to farm heroics for reputation anyway so it doesn’t really matter if they are comparable or not.

if you’re changing specs especially as a hybrid the gear becomes less useful

Not even bothering with t3 on my shaman because I plan on playing elemental in tbc

As a Feral druid I’m going to be replacing a lot of stuff quickly.

For other classes it depends on the class and set bonuses. Mages and Warlocks will probably wear T3 for a good while and replace then with Tailoring crafteds.

Eventually a +40 spellpower upgrade is going to trump the 12 or whatever hit rating your t3 has.

Agreed. Especially considering how terrible Feral itemization is in classic. We get a big jump in TBC. Heck, even the “of the beast” greens are good upgrades for some slots.

it might stay to 68-70 wich is about a few days for most players, and why would u want to carry on with it anyways, out with the old in with the new.if i play tbc i know ill be replacing any classic gear as it rolls in.Trinkets and atiesh might have staying power but those are very rare items.

If you’re using Naxx gear in heroic dungeons you’ll most likely be dying a lot. From what I remember of the real TBC, not a pserver, Naxx gear will be replaced by 68-70, and certainly with lvl 70 dungeon loot. Sockets alone are huge.
One exception to this is I remember seeing Tfurys being used up till maybe T5? Whether it was an epeen thing, or it was truly better I don’t know.

Didn’t they nerf the AOE threat on TF part way through TBC?

Thanks for the replies! I’m preplanning for the journey to 70 and the “pre bis” phase before venturing into TBC raid content.

Currently main a warrior tank, but so far I’ve taken a lackadaisical approach to P6 loot knowing that the finish line is in sight. I figured there might be some Naxx items that are still relevant in TBC phase 1-2, kinda like how that trinket from a Maraudon quest that gives +25 to all stats is still solid item.

Looking forward to TBC, what are some of the items in classic that will help a person to hit the ground running?

Any item for any class!

It got nerfed early, Patch 2.0.10. Just under two months after BC went live.

You call that “barely” an upgrade? let’s not forget sockets either. I mean hey man, if you want to use your T3 that long be my guest, but I won’t be partying with you.

I wouldn’t worry about it tbh. Everyone will get free top tier PvP gear. The thing is, TBC did a pretty decent job of giving you upgrades as you played, and the zones were an absolute blast to quest through.
Once content “matters” in TBC, like T4 content, everything you worked for in vanilla will be in your bank or scrapped, just enjoy the ride
