Navi is a mid range part. Of course there’s nothing wrong with that, as the mid-range is now basically anything from a GTX 1060 to RTX 2070, IMO. Best case scenario is that Navi will match a GTX 1080/RTX 2070 in performance.
But IMO, the biggest problem with current GCN is delta compression. While it may have been good when GCN launched in 2012 (compared to Fermi refresh), it is incredibly lackluster now. One assumes this is why AMD GPU’s need a ridiculous memory bandwidth and Nvidia GPU’s can get away with using GDDR.
I agree with it being mid range, vega 64~ will be mid range this year. Just kind of hyped for the ryzen cpu in these new consoles. They definitely could be a no compromises alternative next generation.
