Nathrezim and demons

So, for ages the Natherzim were just demons. It was said that they didn’t become demons that they just were. With this recent lore are they still considered demons?

as long as danuser sits at the head of the table, there’s no canon at all.
don’t worry over it, he isn’t.

As of the most recent lore, many of them seem to have only been demons since being “banished” to Nathreza by their creator, Denathrius. They deliberately consumed fel energy to turn themselves into demons so they could infiltrate the workings of the Twisting Nether and go about arranging Sargeras’ fall into madness, the titan Pantheon’s demise and overall disruption of existential events in the Great Dark.

So they weren’t originally demons, but started out as entities born of Death. Plus technically any dreadlords who’ve infiltrated the other cosmic domains of existence wouldn’t be demons; they’d be whatever one becomes when attuned to the energies of those realms. Based upon representation thus far it would seem that most of them became demons, but that’s not necessarily the case. Given the nature of its role in the cosmos, the actual scale of the Shadowlands - including stuff like the size of each zone and the native races’ population numbers - far outstrips what gamescale can actually represent, so theoretically there might feasibly be trillions of dreadlords “out there,” hidden among the denizens of the universe’s cosmic realms, and those in the Burning Legion could turn out to have been a small minority that let their presence be known while the majority remained unseen and insinuated throughout the cosmos.

Dunno. Like Raselle said, the new lore is that they originally were creatures of Death, but then became demons via fel intake (presumably). I guess they could just as easily revert to being Death entities by imbibing anima. Or not. It’s impossible to know because all of this is just being made up by Blizz as they go along.

Why cant they be both? They were created by the Master, he could have created them based on demons, or he could have made them as a race that can accept other types of magic, considering lothlorien… who we can now safely say is a bad guy.

Beings that consume enough fel become demons. So while the Nathrezim were originally beings of Death, their large consumption of fel turned them into demons. And as far as we know, they still follow the demonic death rule of permanently dying within Twisting Nether and fel statured areas over the Death beings needed to die within the Shadowlands to truly die.

Therefor Balnazzar should still be dead, while the Nathrezim killed during the 9.1 campaign like Gorgannon should be reforming within the Twisting Nether.

And judging from their death animations(where they dissipate into Revendreth Anima) they are reforming with Revendreth’s Anima intact.

Considering it was their imprisonment in Mardum that gave Sargeras his unique flavor of Fel which binds those infected with it it would not surprise me if they were the intended wielders of the power of Dominion(Renathal’s Harvester Medallion is Dominion and Renathal was assigned a spot in the Nathrezim’s territory in Revendreth so them sharing the Dominion Death Magic is no surprise) which allows Demons to enact Dominion over those who ingest their Blood.

Grom and the Orcs’ Red Eyes is due to Dominion driving them even as the Fel gives them power. With that in mind it is no surprise that the FelBlood turns Orcs Red upon the second dose strengthening the Dominion from the origin of the FelBlood over them.

The Orcs who ingest the Blood of Mannoroth taken from his corpse rather than his living Body are spared from Dominion’s influence(since Mannoroth isn’t actively enacting Dominion over any of his dead Bodies or anything tied to them) and turn Grey instead.

Just to note: Dominion is not the same as Domination. They may both bind one to their will and both be weak to Light(no surprise since they are so similar) but they are clearly not the same type of Death Magic(Dominion is Red while Domination is Rainbow-Black).

Dominion if I had to guess is enacting rulership over another(Denathrius’s way of doing things) while Domination is about stripping away Free Will entirely(the Primus’s form of imprisonment).

Yeah demons were all sentient races at one point or another - they became demons by choice, joining Sargeras’ burning crusade and being tainted by the fel, their souls bound to the Twisting Nether.

So I’d say the Nathrezim are still canonically demons, we’ve just learned that their origins are actually with the realm of death
