I came here thinking we were talking about companions… I always confuse the two.

But, if you were asking about companion pets, I would answer: Yes, I name all of my level 25 pets! That’s a lot of names… staying creative is challenging.

My favorite pet names are my turtles, which I have named after the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles… Donatello, Michelangelo, and Leonardo.

On my Hunters, I always name my pets. I get a theme and stick with it. There were 9 original Spirit Beasts, so they all got named after the 9 crewmembers of the Serenity. Mal (wolf), Zoe (cat), Jayne (bear), Wash (wolf), Book (owl), River (cat), Simon (crab), Kaylee (cat), Inara (cat).

For my other Hunter I went with a forge theme. Dark Iron Dwarf with all red firey pets of the different families. So, Anvil (Terrorpene), Tongs (Lost Emberspit Scorpion), Hammer (Red Runed Demonhound although not happy with this one, closest I could find for myself), and Rasp (Loque’nahak because why not if you can right?). Of those, believe it or not, Loque’nahak was the easiest to get. That Scorpion was a pain. Although it’s fun to have it and the vanity pet that matches out at the same time. I named the vanity pet Tweezers.

So, in short I agree. Name your pets. Make a theme. Have fun collecting what you need. It’s something to do.

But…Bear is a good name. In fact, I named one of the dogs I captured in WoD Bear. I briefly considered naming all my pets Bear, but thought that was overkill. Besides, Firelizard and Nospit wouldn’t be happy.

If it makes you all happier though, my Hunan hunter just renamed her Lizard, Liz.

I name all of my pets. Many of them still have names from when I was a panda so slowly renaming them but yes. I always name them.

…except my spirit moose. I just kinda…have the spirit moose.

Are you me, because I was planning on making this same exact post.

Of course all your pets should have a name, but in most cases the pets I tame already have a specific name so I generally go with that. So if I tame a pet named Mavarnir the name stays Mavarnir. Who am I to change his name he might really like it. If the pet was named “Melanomia” or worse I might make an exception to this rule.

Now in Legion I had Hati so the challenge was to come up with a name for the other pet that was complimentary. So I had Maja & Hati, Sucha & Hati, etc.

It could be worse. You could have a… um… “pet” that comes with a name you have to spend gold to change.

Luckily, I am happy with Helkrast (my void walkder) and Karrot (my imp).

All of my pets are named for the signs of the Zodiac, except for my mecha pet which is named sparky. A snake named Ophichus, the Spectral Gryphon from Stormwind named Leo (killed 3 Night elfs who were camping him lol…) and so on.

I don’t name my pets until I am sure I will be using them regularly.

My hunter has used a worm named Wiggles since 2008. I havent used any other pet since then. No point naming new ones if they will never be used.
