Could someone explain to me why the name Conan is restricted when I try to make a new character . I understand if it had sexual, racial overtone. Hech even my last name is restricted. So please help me understand whats going on in this crazy world we live in today… ALso tried to make a guild with the name of my favorite group of guys from the Conan books and that to was shot down bexcause of one word that described a color. SAD

It’s probably already taken. Either that, or it goes against TOS and is specifically not allowed by Blizzard. Probably already taken, though. You aren’t the first person to think “oh gee I’ll name my warrior after the only ‘famous’ barbarian”.
You tried to make a guild name with “one word that described a color”. I’m not familiar with the lore / world of Conan so maybe you could actually say the guild name you wanted to call it? Unless, of course, saying it would show why it was rejected…

they had a group called The Black Dragons. was denied for the word black. Can’t use white or yellow either. Also, you said its probably taken since I’m not only one that thought about doing that. When that happens, it will tell you THAT NAME IS TAKEN. So back to what i was asking why it is invalid.

‘GodEmperor’ is restricted too.
It’s not about censorship or “canceling” our favorite Hyperborean… it’s about blocking out common names from fiction fantasy.

the guild name was The Black Dragons. Also, you stated that someone (since I’m not the only one to think of naming a toon Conan) that’s why it says Restricted, but actually it would say NAME HAS BEEN TAKEN if you used one not restricted. Here’s an example If I choose a name like Conn and someone else has that name (since Conn is not restricted which makes me confused because that’s Conan’s son) it will say name taken.
Conan is a barbarian. You must be looking for Diablo Immortal.

It’s probably due to IP reasons. I tried using ‘Ironman’ and it was restricted as well.

You attempted to name your character after a copyrighted character, which is generally not a great idea in any video game made by a company that doesn’t have the rights to use the character.
Funcom, the company that made the Age of Conan MMO, now owns the Conan IP outright after buying the Cabinet Group in 2021.

My gut reaction was to say maybe it’s copyrighted because of the book, movies and other properties of the franchise. But Conan is a legit name many have and I thought you can’t copyright such things.
