Hi there, I haven’t seen anything definitive from Blizzard on this. When we log in pre launch to reserve our names, will servers be up so we can save our name on just one server, or all servers?
Or will the name be saved across all servers so there will only be one “xxshotxx” in Classic?
I’m assuming it will be reserved for the one server you pick, but that means Blizzard will likely need to share server names prior to the name reservation date, which is fast approaching!
My understanding (and forgive me, I don’t remember where I read this) is that servers and character creation will be made available on the 13th for just this purpose.
Am I wrong about that? I could’ve sworn that was what I heard back in like…May.
That makes the most sense. And if that is the case I’d be curious if I can save the 3 names across multiple servers or if the name saving would just be 3 names on one server.
This is true, but after launch you’ll be able to have a lot more across all servers. I think it was either 25 or 50 characters per classic account between all servers after it goes live.
You get to Create 3 Characters, either on the same realm, or on different realms. If you create 3 characters each on a different realm, you can name them all the same since names are only unique across a given realm.
Please stop calling it “Name Reservation” as it is nothing of the sort.
It is certainly something of the sort:
" Create Your Character
If you’re eager to “claim your character name" in WoW Classic, take note: we’ll be opening character creation on Tuesday, August 13.**Players with an active subscription or game time on their account will be able to create up to three characters per World of Warcraft account. We’ll have more information on realm names closer to launch, but rest assured—you’ll have plenty of time to figure out your plans for realm domination!”
Yes, and apparently people think it’s some sort of form you put your name into, because “reasons?”. Call it character creation, because there’s a reason they used “claim your character name” in lower case and “Create Your Character” in upper case.
Also “We were on Stormbreaker in the stress test, so let’s take each of our 300 player guilds there”.
Little Known Fact: In the original Open Beta, they used all the intended servers, but just named them Server 1 etc. When the lists came out with real names, we rolled on Silver Hand because it was clearly Server 40, the server we’d been on in the Open Beta, as it was the only RP server in PST, and had been the only RP server in PST in the Beta.
It must be server because we cannot create a character without choosing a realm. I would suspect we’ll get a realm list and types after the stress test.
Creating a character you can’t play for a few more weeks is effectively reserving that name on that server. You are literally logging in to claim and reserve that name. That’s the whole purpose of the event.
Why be a stickler on an immaterial difference in nomenclature? You clearly understood the point and answered the question.
