I was on my hunter and tried to name my dog “Sirius” (I have a wolfdog irl who is named Sirius) and when I try to name him, it says “Name Reserved, Enter New Name” in red letters on screen. I don’t understand what the problem with the name is.
The problem is that it’s reserved, and you need to enter a new name.
Reserved for what?
Same thing with Hati
Some in game purpose
Sirius Black for WoW confirmed.
Usually means its reserved within the system-- System reserved names can’t be used by players. It could mean, it’s an NPC name that’s in the Data files.
I’ve come across few of these. They will reserve names for NPC’s in the system even if they decide to not use it.
Why so Sirius?
I see, and I can’t use a special character to get around it right?
You can try. I don’t use the special characters ever. So I don’t know if they actually work on Pet names.
if a replacement for genn as leader one day, I’d welcome my new magic using werewolf overlord lol.
You can totally use special characters in pet names. I wanted Albert as name for a white krolusk pet (on my hunter, not on this mage). Got the same message that the name is reserved, so I added an accented e in there. That worked fine.
I don’t think so, I have seen hunter name his pet “Hati”
Pet Names =/= Character Names.
Could you be thinking about this for a second? Just because you could give your pets some nice cool names doesn’t mean that you’re going to have the same chance with naming your characters as well.
Sirius Ebonwing. (close enough)
This is why:
OP: I was on my hunter and tried to name my dog “Sirius”. OP is a level 120 hunter.
I was thinking he was trying to name his pet.
FORGIVE ME FOR MISREADING
Tired, and haven’t fallen asleep yet
They also have a database for copyrighted names or names that are famous. Can’t use those either. but it is kinda limited so you could get one, other times you can get it. /shrug
The trick is to get a name before its put on the reserved list and then hope they never ever re-run a validity check.
Same thing will happen if you try and name a pet simba or anything else that is a semi-popular registered trademark actually… it’s really dumb but i guess blizz is covering their butts from getting sued? as if a multinational company would sue over a random hunter pet name but w/e thats all I can figure
