I understand that you want Classic to be the way WoW was. But you have already made changes to it, so its not a 100% identical experience.
I had a guildie snag the name I use in many games, but did not realize this until i did a free server transfer and chose a secondary name. I was told since its vanilla GMs aren’t allowed to. This seems bizarre to me. It’s not changing any of the games mechanics, the lore, the experience, its a simple name which is the identity of some people who have gamed together for years.
I see no valid reason why it isn’t allowed again since you have made changes to classic wow to support your needs as a company, but not this for the players.

You had a guild mate reserve a name for you? Or a guild mate took the name you wanted? I’m sorry, I’m just having trouble understanding what you described.
I agree! Although, I’ll be the first to say I’m anti microtransactions. I feel name changes shouldn’t be an issue because like stated it doesn’t affect any gameplay, lore, etc.
A big oopsie on my part, I was too damn eager to play Classic that I rushed my name. I had something different in mind but Riggi felt clever and quirky (Rigamortis) considering im an undead.
But in all honesty, name changes would be a harmless addition to Classic. Besides, you’re not “taking away the classic experience” by adding a Battle net service. Hell it doesnt even have to be advertised on Classic anywhere. We know damn well back in '05 it wouldnt have been advertised haha.
I vote this up Blizzard Activision! We need Name Changes!

Name changes in Classic is a big deal. It promotes bad behavior. You can ninja, act like a jerk. Then if they decide to play nice, name change, and start fresh. 25$ out.
Imagine someone who thinks: I’m going to just ninja everything, have an awesome character, lots of gold. Then reset my reputation, with a name change. It allows for bad community, with very low repercussions.

This exactly. When you start allowing name changes is when the community becomes even more toxic. With no name changes you have to be nice or you can easily become hated on your servers. I like this.
Classic is all about community and reputation. If you can just name change you can essentially reset your reputation with your community after everyone blacklists you for being a jerk. Name change should never exist in classic.
I concur, and I read all the other reasons to NOT allow it, but seriously, what’s a name change. IF and when they are a “part of the service” to players who pay good money to play every month, I intend to change the names of my characters to streamline my gaming experience. Voting " Yes" to name changes.
