I have a really cool name on one of the servers I play on, and I’d like to use that name for another character I have on a different server.
So I thought maybe I could delete/rename the character holding the name, and then transfer over the character I want to play and use the name.
My question is: Will the name be at risk of being taken if I do this? Or is there some kind of hold placed on it for a while? I just want to know if there’s a risk of losing the name before I do anything.
If the name isn’t already taken on a new server - you should be able to have 2 characters with the same name on 2 diff servers. I have 2 Shadowvixyn’s on 2 different servers, no problems at all.
If someone else is already using the name on the desired server, then you have problems.
You can transfer your character over, once the transfer is complete you will be flagged for a rename since your other character has that name. Before logging in, delete your old character and then log into your new one with the name.
A name is reserved by the account holder for 90 days after deletion in case you want to reuse it or decide to restore that character if its been deleted.
If you delete a character, reuse that name on another, then try to restore the original name holder it wont let you restore until the 90 days has passed however, it wont let you bypass with a free name change.
So long as you have the character that’s holding the name deleted before transferring over your desired character, you should be able to use the name with no issues. You can’t have two characters with the same name on the same server, but once you have created a character with a name it’s yours for 90 days even if you delete it.

I’m still deciding if I want to delete or rename the current name holder, but I think I’ll do that first, then transfer the new character over to take the name.
Is a name held if you purchase a name change?
My thought was I could change the current name holder’s name, then transfer over the character I want to use the name on.
That way I could avoid having to delete the current name holder. The problem is I don’t want to risk losing the name by doing this.
