I changed my Hunters name from Necrotard to Mournebow well over a month ago… This change has not been reflected when my character is shown on forums, as it shows my old name… Yet again, another bug, that should have been corrected a long time ago.
BTW, there’s a separate forum for bug reports involving web stuff, including the forums.
Anyway, it’s the way this forum system works. The culprit is poor integration between the WoW systems’ idea of your identity and the forum’s. The forum is a third-party product so it isn’t written with an understanding of what a character is. WoW itself understands that a character is a character, even if you rename it, move it to another realm, change its faction, etc. The forums understand none of that. On the forums, your character is your name and your realm, and if you change any of that in WoW’s systems, that updated identity is an all-new character as far as the forums are concerned.
Since the forum is a third-party product with Blizzard having very little direct ability to change anything, it’s going to be a little while before that gets straightened out (if ever).
Until then, there’s a workaround: roll a new character using the old name and realm and level it up to 10+. Use that character on the forums and it will “claim” the old identity and forum statistics and privileges. However, the old name in your case may attract unwanted attention, so maybe it wouldn’t be a great idea in this case.
This was very Helpful TY, however, the forums being a third party is quite irrelevant. Blizzard has already set the precedent that they support, use, and under normal circumstances, change characters’ names correctly. If they do not have the ability to correct a mistake on the platform in which one is to report mistakes… It speaks volumes about the poor business philosophies Blizzard Devs have… So for now, make another Necrotard, get to 10, post on a forum… and then my current name, Mournebow, will appear on the correct character for forum posts?
No. The new Necrotard will “own” all the old Necrotard’s posting history, etc. Mournebow will continue to be the new kid in town, because there is no association between the two characters as far as the forums knows.
Your old posts can only be owned by a character named Necrotard of Tichondrius. Forever, only, and always (or until Blizzard and Discourse figure it out). Mournebow-Tichondrius is literally a brand new character and will always have its own distinct posting history and forum presence.
