The good ol days were something else.
very true this. still getting settled into mine so not really Rpâing yet, level grinds and such since its a lone server basically for me. Unlike my grouped oceanics where I can share things since servers linkedâŚI canât on MG lol.
As long you are cool, they are cool. Many wonât even focus on you till put in TRP as I understand it. RPâs like add ons like TRP. Which does have nice features btw.
Now the TRP (others) profilesâŚyeah put some effort here really. If you go that route.
I donât really see the issue with âname abuse.â 90% of people who roleplay on roleplay servers (if not 99%) use an RP addon that lets them display a custom name when people hover over their profiles with a mouse. I had a guy in my old guild named âDabbingcowâ (or something like that) who had a roleplay addon displaying an entirely different name.
I have a character named âManasplainerâ who appears to others as âIlleriasâ in RP. Just let people have their silly names. Why go out of your way to ruin peopleâs fun? You are one of the only people I have seen complain about this.
I once ran into player in warmode that was both sexually and religiously offensive and it bugged me so much that i tracked him down and killed him repeatedly. It just seemed appropriate.
A lot of busy bodies play wow.
Not to get off-topic but when the bathroom debate was raging back âhomeâ in the US, I was living in Denmark where the bathrooms were unisex and no one cared. Of course, there werenât those really weird and unusual gaps in the bathroom stalls that are common in the US.
I encourage you to find a good pen and paper face to face group. Roleplay in Wow is just⌠sad. The game doesnât really support it very well. Even forum based RP is much better.
i think with RP realms instead of GMs forcing a name change the GMs should change the name to something RP friendly.
having a GM intervene and give them a random lore friendly name would probably go along way to help curb this sort of thing⌠as i donât think many people would be willing to pay for a name change service to put it back to something offensive only to get it renamed by a GM again.
reminds me of a hunter guildy many years ago who had a pet named something i cannot mention here. oneday he logged in to find his pet was now named Spot (this was before hunters could rename pets)
I donât play on rp servers but I would find people crying about naming rules on one to be the same as people crying about being ganked on a pvp server.
If you are on an RP server you should respect their naming rules. If you do not, then you canât cry when a forced name change does happen and action on your account for repeated rule breaks.
With all this deflecting and reaching I hope you two stretched first. Donât wanna pull something.
Arwenna: Apparently you think youâre the only one with alts. While I do go to events (more general ones than Forsaken because I can only praise the Banshee Queen so much) and have a profile which can post (not that you actually care, youâre just swinging) I spend more time ingame on other toons.
Lejk: Gwynplaine is quite compliant, itâs a literary character and a minor miracle I even managed to get it with all the name squatters. You have been to a large RP server before right? Gotta go a bit farther than baby names sites if you want something that isnât already taken. What the hell is a âLejkâ anyway?
You have something in game that bothers you. Thatâs fine. I do, however, find it humorous how you make it sound like you were forced to play hall monitor. You didnât have to report anyone. You wanted to. There is a distinct difference. No one forced you to spend hours doing it.
RP Name enforcement is almost entirely invalidated by the plethora of RP addons that allow you to literally replace your toon name, mouse-over information, and what appears when you use the /say and /me methods of communication.
âBut the name over their heads!â Is metagaming. If you are certain you want an immersive RP experience, you remove things that would detract from the experience, such as General and Trade chat and UI elements that would only serve to clutter the screen with irrelevant information.
If you want to try-hard for your RP Immersion, there are all the options available to you, but it more-so sounds as if the OP was instead going the route of being a try-hard to make everything difficult for everyone else.
And a thing I may have forgot to mention⌠Banning is one of the most extreme punishments, usually reserved for severe or deliberate, repeated offenses. Also, forcing Name Generator names is⌠Very bad, because a lot of them come out like jibberish and are STILL taken. At most, will get a brief suspension for making deliberately offensive names, but at this rate, everyone would be offended by everything.
Thereâs a lot of context in RP that is far trickier to pull off with just text.
The tone you tell a man to go kiss off is vital. The sigh as you lean your head on your hand and go âfine fine, weâll do it your way.â is trickier to convey in text.
The very facial expressions that even you may not be aware of cannot be properly conveyed.
Text to text RP has its place, but for the best form of RP, face to face is the way to go.
Old school grognard here that broke his teeth on DnD when Elf was a Class and not a Race.
Err people that donât RP donât have RP profiles or addons. Mouse over âCountgankulaâ and itâll say⌠âŚCountgankula.
So weâre agreed that you have stolen your name from a pre-existing literary and film character?
Because I have some bad news for youâŚ
Examples of common unacceptable or disruptive RP names include (but are not limited to):
* Names that reference well known people, characters, brands, places, or icons
Hmm.
Youâre essentially saying that you are allowed to break naming conversations because names are hard, but others (who, like you, are breaking the policy) are the dirt worst and need to be permabanned.
Got it.
![]()
You really have nothing else do you? âY-youâre name counts!â
All it would take is for one real person to to be named Gwynp- oops hereâs a guy ~https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F._Gwynplaine_MacIntyre. Itâs officially a human name.
If my name is unallowed (and god youâre stretching that like taffy) basically any name is banned. Hell, even YOU violate the Roleplay Naming Policy if you wanna warp it until it fits your narrative.
Go ahead hop on WrA and report it you absolute joke of a person, Iâm sure Blizzard will be right on it. After theyâre finished ignoring ever other name report because they donât care about RP
So your name is against RP naming conventions, which is what youâve been writhing about all through this thread, and now itâs been clearly and unequivocally demonstrated that thatâs you case, you attack the very naming conventions youâre trying uphold.
Wow.
Unlike you and your ilk I donât spend my time trying to get people banned.
Iâm content to just point out your rampant hypocrisy.

If you donât have TRP or MRP you literally do not exist in my eyes from an RP standpoint. Iâll still group with you for content and talk to you in general, looking for group, trade or defense but I wonât RP with you or acknowledge your existence even to the point of reporting you unless your name is violent, abusive, racist or what would qualify as obscene. I will report for event griefing as well, if it is truly unconscionable. As another poster pointed out, âthe name over their headsâ and your concern over that is metagaming, and almost as unacceptable as godmodding.
It was a rhetorical question. You didnât have to admit you got nothing but that flimsy argument.
I kept this going because yelling at people clearly in the wrong is cathartic but this has gotten kinda boring and your flailing for a justification is annoying. Untracking.
and having to pretend 99% of the server doesnât exist doesnât sound like a problem?
99% of the people on my server have TRP or MRP profiles. I only end up ignoring like 1% of the populace. I daresay itâs the same for your server. In your case there may be an issue even if in some areas, since well⌠Alliance Moon Guard.
