Nah, This expansion is actually pretty bad

I understand people are still having fun with the game and that is awesome, I was really excited for the release of this expansion, I had my quest log cleared my character geared and ready to go, I played through all of the pre patch crap excited for whatever this scourge invasion link to the shadowlands was.

But this expansion is crap.

Its empty, its filled with mobs that do nothing but walk back and forth and have no depth or character or personality, Archers that shoot arrows into the ground to look like they are fighting a battle. There is no character to any of it, no real substance.

You are railroaded along the story line because that’s the only place that any real substance exists, Between the cut scenes and the cinematic experience its exciting i wont lie.

But at the end of the day i am not really enjoying it all that much, I am certainly not very excited about the quests i am doing, The zones feel dead and i don’t feel like i am really interacting with anyone or doing anything of purpose.

My character is not really changing at all… I am the exact same character i was before, I get a few abilities cool, But this is a pretty shallow empty core of an expansion, I am currently level 56? I might go back and do some old world stuff.

I am not burnt out on the game i only recently came back to play this expansion so i came back just pre corruption stuff vanishing in BFA, which i thought was pretty cool by the way, My professions seem dull? I went to a guy said hey i want to learn professions… sure here have some recipes… Good stuff…

Like this is a serious lack of vision and effort and if you say otherwise you seriously have a misconception about the level of work this company usually produces.

I waited outside with my brother and friends at 12:00 for them to hand out the first copies of the burning crusade god damn like 10+ years ago and I have come back and played every expansion along the way.

Shadowlands is boring, I am bored of Shadowlands, If you are having fun continue to have fun, the expansion is bad.

This xpac is super boring.
In the past, such as Legion and even BfA, the leveling up and stories were cool and interesting.
I didnt mind leveling up characters but not in SL.
BfA systems like HoA and Azerite armor were crap though but thats another story.

I really disagree. The zones are full of mobs that actually do damage and I don’t mindlessly burn down like back in Legion/BfA. All of the covenants have real character to them and I see why they would appeal to different people.

The zones are crafted beautifully and look a grade above BfA (which was also amazing visually). The new abilities and characters look and sound amazing too.

Torghast is really a blast so far and I don’t even want to leave it.

The expansion has systems that had a LOT of love put into them and it really really shows at end game. The game is less on rails at 60 and says “Here’s what you can do, do what you want.” It’s amazing and leagues better than BfA and even Legion on launch.

I feel like the worst part is actually at level 60. Like, the end game is nothing but grinding out WQ for currency to turn in at a torturous pace of progression. And all of this is without the flightmaster’s whistle, which means you are running across these huge empty and boring maps. I certainly hadn’t thought of this when I chose Bastion as my Covenant, because that whole landmass looks like one big inviting pillow.

I was hoping Torghast would add some replayability, but honestly? It’s nothing special. I bought in for the half-year sub ( before they did the fairy costume thing ), and I’ve still got like 4 months left, but honestly after Cyberpunk drops? I probably won’t come back. : /

EDIT: Plus, my own personal gripe, I really hate what they did to the classes. Not a single one of my classes feels fun anymore, and the covenant abilities add nothing.

Honestly I think it might be just me. I’m getting to be an old dude now. Middle age and up; and maybe my taste have changed? But it just feels like I’ve seen all this before. There really isn’t anything new and exciting or groundbreaking going on here. Just same ole same ole. BFA 2.0.
I’ll be hitting 60 in a bit. then Bliz I’m certain, will have stultifying ‘chores’ waiting for me in order to level up some borrowed power time gated system thingy. I’ll give it a chance; but so far I’m liking it actually less that BFA at launch.
I can’t quite articulate it; but I’m kind of ‘bored’ as well.

I’m having an ok time. But I’m the type that usually plays expansions up to max level cap then quits.

Then comes back later to raid some what and quit again.

It’s definitely not blowing me away. I’m def not waking up early to sign on.

But I’m also having fun at the same time.

Have not been a fan of the leveling experience. The pace is fine it’s just how linear it all is. It’s still almost impossible to die. The quests are the same mundane things we’ve been doing for over a decade now. Hopefully it gets better in the end game because this hasn’t been a good start. I also leveled tailoring to 100 in all of 10 minutes? Professions once again feel like they lack depth. Worried about the longevity this expansion will have.

I don’t know if I would go THAT far , to use the world dead, but I think when you said “It’s empty”, that’s something I’ve identified but I can’t say exactly what is causing that impression.

You can complain all you like but it’s already better than BfA was at launch, and is far more promising as we look to future content.

Systemlands put a lot of weight into rental systems. I believe it was a mistake as there was opportunity grow the evergreen systems that would last beyond this expansion.
