Nag screens on this forum

omg even starting a topic gives them now

Why and for what purpose are we getting messages saying - you have responded to ‘x’ 3 times in this thread and please send them a message if you wish to continue the conversation and when you click the link provided it does nothing.

Right now I am getting this message I type this. No my topic is NOT similar to that.

Clear your browser cache? If something is broken that can often help.

I am not the only one getting them and this isn’t something that appears to be broken, it appears to be an intentional feature.

It is, actually.

Blizzard didn’t write this version of the forum software, like (I believe) it did with the earlier two iterations. It’s third-party software called Discourse, and that’s a common feature of Discourse fora. It’s designed to “prevent one poster from dominating a discussion.”

I don’t know if it’s configurable. Every Discourse-based forum I’ve ever used did something like this. You may just have to live with it.

I would suggest posting in the Web Site Bug Report forum.

It just seems to have started recently though. I have been posting on this forum for years and just in the last few weeks this started coming up.

They could at least let us send personal messages if we are getting screens coming up saying to do so.

Ok I will try that if I can find out where that is - k moved it over.

Thanks.

Yes, well no response at all over here means it doesn’t belong here either.

I guess I go looking to see if there is some sort of addon to block this garbage.

Wehsite Bug Reports is literally the only forum it might possibly belong in. But no one is entitled to a blue post. Most bug reports, by design, are one-way only. You post bug report and go on about your day. No response, no confirmation, no promises. That’s been the way Blizzard has preferred to do it for years.

As to “addon”, I rather doubt such a thing exists, since forum software is mostly running on the server and no browser addon can override that.

At least where I posted it originally there was discussion. Here is like a black hole and I am curious exactly what you thought was the ‘bug’ in all of this anyway. It just looks to be like crap design.

Actually I guess my question should be directed at Nok.

That’s actually a fair point. In most bug reporting forums here, complaining about intentional design decisions doesn’t work; QA will disregard bug reports about things the developers don’t consider to be bugs.

I believe the website bug report forum is an exception, because there doesn’t seem to be a good alternative for suggesting changes to undesired but intentional “features”.

Further evidence this is probably the best answer: a moderator as the original forum (Technical Support) moved it here.

And yes, that nag (and other “Mother may I” nags in the forum software) are nasty and presumptuous little “features” and none of the Discourse based communities I use like them. But it’s absolutely common and absolutely intentional. Hopefully, it’s configurable, which would be good reason to complain about it on a forum that would eventually get back to the website maintainers. Hopefully.

I moved it here because of Nok’s comment - I originally posted it in Customer Support.

I was actually hunting information about discourse earlier and you pretty much have to sell your first born to even give the software a review.

Based upon what I’ve seen of forum fixes since this current forum software was implemented it appears that either the third-party developer, or blizzard folks who interface with them, monitor the web site bug report forum.

Both bug fixes and changes to some forum features have shown up, apparently due to posts in the website bug report forum. They don’t tend to release individual bug fixes and feature changes but seem to bunch them up and release several as a group every few months.
