Myths of the Shadowlands Dungeons EXTREMELY timelocked

Due to the addition of mythic Shadowlands dungeons into the mythic season system, getting the achievement “Myths of the Shadowlands Dungeons” can take upwards of 8 ENTIRE MONTHS to complete (unless you’re able to do a current-day mythic! I am not). Casual players or solo players are forced to wait for the season to end, which takes (from what we can see) over half a year, to be able to access the dungeons in their scaled down form.

This has the extra side effect of locking mount hunters out of farming- for example, with The Necrotic Wake currently in season, anyone hoping to farm Marrowfang’s Reins is pretty out of luck. I dread the possibility of the seasons in the future including things like King’s Rest or Underrot!

From what I’ve seen, there’s no way to access the scaled down mythics until the season ends, which is a pretty big problem for things like the Shadowlands meta achievement, which requires having done all the mythic dungeons. I would love to be corrected on this, however, if anyone has found a way to get into the scaled down mythics.

It would be pretty great for an option to be added to access “seasonal” mythics as a separate difficulty, so mount farming and achievements can still be acquired without an 8 month wait.

Underrot was in a dragonflight season but you could still run the BFA version, because heroic and mythic 0 underrot WERENT in the current dragonflight season at the time, unlike the current TWW season which includes Necrotic wake, where the heroic and m0 version are part of the current season, not just the keystone version.

In dragonflight all 8 dragonflight dungeons were available on m0 difficulty every season, even the ones that werent in available as M+ versions, in TWW that isnt the case the current season has the same dungeons for M+ as it does for M0 and heroic.

You are correct that there is no way to access the original scaled down version of Necrotic Wake and Mists of Tirna Scythe until season 2, at which point the original scaled down shadowlands version of Theatre of pain is no longer available and neither is Motherlode from BFA (which raises an interesting question about Mechagon: Workshop in season 2)

That’s good to know! I wasn’t paying much attention to DF seasons, so I didn’t know about the way it worked back then. It would be awesome to see the Shadowlands mythics in TWW seasons work the same way, where the m0 version can still be done scaled down, and m1+ becomes scaled up to current.

This is an interesting question I haven’t seen posed elsewhere, yet. They can’t just set Operation: Mechagon to m0 in its entirety, because then that includes 4 extra bosses that aren’t intended to be part of the season’s loot. Perhaps it’s instead just being excluded from m0? Tempted to hop on the PTR and see what happens.

EDIT: Looks like they are just closing off the first half of Operation: Mechagon on M0 for the entirety of season 2, as it zones you directly to the Robodrome with no way to backtrack. The NPC only has an option to leave the instance.

One of the consequences of them recycling old dungeons for M+.

Also another dent in the argument “if you don’t like (content) you don’t have to do it, it’s not like its existence is affecting you in any way.”

We saw it with SoD bleeding into era, and now we’re seeing it with M+ blocking off old dungeons.

Well in Dragonflight it wasnt an issue. Even when old expansion dungeons were in the M+ pool they werent in the heroic and M0 pool so their original versions were still intact. I could still run Necrotic Wake on mythic weekly for a chance at the mount and blow through it because the dungeon has shadowlands HP for the mobs.

I forget the exact reason but with TWW changed it (so you can learn the pulls with a timer?) so the M+ rotation dungeons are all available in M0 difficulty. With this change M0 necrotic wake is level 80 and mobs have TWW levels of HP, so no easy mount runs till season 2.
