A quick take. I saw the title “the Tormented” as a reward for reaching a rating of 1,500. I wanted it. So having little to no experience in Mythic+ I started grinding them out as Guardian Druid; approximately last Wednesday and reaching 1,500 early this morning.
“HOT TAKE”
Low level keys “0-5” seemed to be filled with “wannabe elitists” that demanded more from LEARNING players than they should have.
Vast majority of DPS would rage quit after the first wipe.
Very few players took time to explain Mythic mechanics before the run started.
Even fewer would explain proper routes to take, as Tank I needed to know and again before the run started.
DPS had a hard on for pulling extra trash because I wasn’t pulling enough, again still learning.
Our group would “easily” reach the final boss and wipe for the first time in the whole dungeon and for whatever reason they would rage quit.
Higher keys needed certain classes with certain abilities, understandably.
Higher keys seemed to flow a lot better than lower-level keys.
Those amongst other things that I can’t remember at this time. But it’s not all doom and gloom because I achieved what I was after and learned a whole lot.
But it was absolutely baptism by fire. Hopefully others can have a more pleasant experience.
The only thing I would change is key leavers would be de-buffed severely. The more you leave a run the longer the de-buff.
Bad players are toxic. They don’t have the skills to be confident in their own ability so they lash out at others.
I’ve said before that I find M17s much easier than M15s. People who play M17s do so because they want to, people who play M15s typically do so because they feel they need to, and those types of players are completely different.
First off kudos for pugging it out, you have more patience than I. That said, I’m gonna be that guy and say, ideally you should take some time to research this sorta stuff yourself especially if your tanking. At the very least go through the dungeons a few times as a non tank so you have an idea of what an “ideal” route looks like. In a perfect world more players would be patient and helpful but this definitely isn’t that world.
You just reminded me I’m going to need to update MDT and look at routes for Tazaveesh, lol.
I did this during the 9.1 PTR cycle for Tormented but didn’t really bother with this patch. Hmm… maybe I’ll just do it live in dumpster keys and see what happens, lol.
I watched numerous Youtube videos on tips and such but none that explained the jailor minions’ and certain affixes. Which was my biggest issue.
Also, the trash % in certain dungeons would throw me off because it seemed each group wanted a different trash pull. Which is kind of the “route” topic I had mentioned.
Your welcome. And hey, if you wanna “do it live” now would be the time to do it as most of the low level players probably have no idea what the route should look like either.
Edit: That probably still won’t stop some of them from throwin’ a fit anyway though lol
Interesting post. Gonna throw my two crowns your way.
Lol when I was trying to get my soul ruby (never got it btw) decided to run some lower keys thinking it’ll go faster. It was harder than the 15s I was doing.
Happens a lot more often than people think and I don’t even understand why. It’s not even the case that we’re running out of time.
This is a point of contention with M+ that needs to be fixed, though I don’t know how or if its possible. You have to learn the mechanics somehow, and m0 is too faceroll with quest gear. But once you enter those mythic dungeons you realize some mechanics are tougher than before and you’re doing a process of re-learning. Maybe 1-10 should be considered the learning phase and restructured in some way? No idea. The progression to mastering those mythics just doesn’t feel… right. Not sure if anybody else has similar thoughts.
You have just made enemies for life, OP. Good luck.
Glad you did at least did some research. As for new mechanics that’s when running as a dps comes in handy, as in my experience people are a bit more forgiving of a dps making mistakes/dying as opposed to the tank.
As far as people wanting different routes, I don’t think there is any way to avoid that entirely in a pug.
Personally I just gave up on pugs. If i do any Mythic+ it’s with a guild group on my main and it’s been a much more enjoyable experience, but I know we aren’t all that lucky.
Really? I’ve been very nervous about trying anything above 10. I’ve just been having a bad time healing people in LFGs I lower keys that I don’t see myself going 10 or above.
Maybe it’s not my fault but as a healer, I always place the blame on myself
First, we’re over a year in to this expansion. The default expectation is you know the instance. Yes this is hard on players that actually are new, but if you show up to the party after the kegs been floated it’s your responsibility to bring your own beer.
I find the easiest way to teach is by example. Monkey see, monkey do, that’s how we’re designed to learn. In low keys you don’t have to do all the mechanics, but some people still do. So on things like the third boss in PF I still run out and pop the adds out of stealth.
Don’t do that. In a good group sometimes you don’t even heal (obviously you do, but avoidable damage is so low that you don’t feel like you’re healing). The higher you go the better groups you’ll get. My 15s and 16s (I don’t push anymore because im lazy) are easier than 5s with random lowbies, and I’m ilvl 249.
Just do 10 and up. The anima torments will actually make your job easier.
It is harder to heal when plsyers don’t mitigate or do/ are away of mechanics or avoidable damage. As a team you should be helping each other. Dps shouldnt be taking avoidable damage, and would be nice to use damage mitigation at certain points of mob pulls or expected damage spikes of boss mechanics.
Its a speed run mode. So you should probably know mechanics before doing it.
