What Ilevel should I be to start basic mythic level raiding. For context I’m currently Ilvl 407 hpal. And for the future, is there a good rule of thumb regarding Ilevel and raiding?
seeing as heroic gear is around 441 top, i would say get close to 435 overall and then good luck on your search. Also having AOTC will help as it shows you have at least cleared heroic and might know the fights to a point.
Ehh, ilvl is good, but, really, you could get away with raiding at, say, 420-ish ilvl if you’re skilled enough. What you ultimately need, though, is to find a guild willing to bet on you and take you into mythic. For that, you’re probably going to need to work your way through both normal and heroic first, more for the experience than the gear itself.
Whats an AOTC
Ahead of the Curve- achievement for killing the last boss on heroic difficulty.
Does the 15 point ilvl difference make that BIG of a difference?
Yes. It’s a considerable stat difference.
People look at ilvl so yes. Does it make that much of a difference, it can.
Not to burst your bubble or anything, but I’d recommend gearing up and applying to a heroic raiding guild first.
Once you get AOTC and feel heroic raiding is not challenging enough, then you can move on to a mythic guild.
Mythic people will look at logs/experience a lot more than ilvl.
It seems tiring to guild hop just for access to certain content in the game. Surely there are guilds that do it all?
If you want to get your application looked at by guilds, probably 430-441. You can achieve that by spamming M+, although if you happen to play a spec that needs to wait for 4pc than your item level will naturally take a little while longer to build up.
Mythic raid guilds typically want people who are, at least are a reliable safe bet for being an above average performer as well as well versed in the content at hand. You may be able to get in lower geared, but they’re going to expect to see that the gear you got is well optimized as well as content you have run that is logged you parsed high in showing a high mechanical understanding of your class/spec and the fight. They are highly unlikely to be interested in holding your hand and training you up.
By a quick glance, you’ve done nothing but queue content. You’ll be very hard pressed to find any mythic raid team with a spot for someone so fresh. Best to start with a heroic progression guild and learn with them and then start seeking out mythic groups once you have experience and decent parses in your pocket.
Your typical Mythic guild started Aberrus Mythic with a raid-wide ilvl of 420 or so…
This. And temperament.
Ahead of the Curve, meaning you killed the final raid boss before the season ended.
CE is Cutting Edge and it means you kill the last boss on mythic before the season ended.
I’m sure there are, but no one in their right mind would bring a 407 hpal who doesn’t know what AOTC is to a mythic raid.
you have things to learn about the game, and there is nothing wrong with that, but this seems like a case of learn to walk before you run.
If you dont have logs of previous raid experience you will need to have solid knowledge and proof of practice in heroic raid before most guilds will take a chance on you.
At 407 ilvl most raids won’t even take you to heroic as you still can gain ilvl from lfr and normal. Respecting the process and gearing up appropriately is part of the game.
My usual rule is -2 ilvl segments is appropriate for raid content. Mythic raid drops ilvl start at 441 so i would expect to run it at around 434. The world top 3 guilds finished the raid at 437, but their skills are wildly deviant from the norm so for more ordinary players i would expect those ilvls to be higher in mythic raiding.
You can always just run normal and heroic with pugs and get logs there. I think that if you’re a good player, the logs will show that, regardless of your past experience.
Can you do it with low ilvl? Sure
But in reality… aim for 440
Normal maxes out at 437
Heroic maxes out at 441
Mythic starts at 441
So getting 437-440 from normal/heroic before going into mythic should be the best bet.
encounters are generally tuned to be completable with a raid grp within 15 ilvls of what it drops, so content dropping 420 can be completed in 405 gear, etc. (this is also why the current tier on heroic/normal was an absolute joke imo)
as for getting into mythic raiding, logs will go a long way. join runs with the intent of logging and look up logs from other players on that fight to see when they casted what, what was the opener like, etc.
after that it’s just a matter of getting those logs seen by the type of guild you want to join. the forums are good as are various discords
