Mythic+ Problem

I just came back after taking a decent break from playing and been wanting to get into mythic+. I’ve been realizing that trying to PUG my way through is pretty tough. I’m not really geared out and have been just doing +2 and have done a couple so far but most of the times I’ve joined a PUG group its either not timed or can’t make it past the first boss. As of recent to I have joined a guild to hopefully find some people to do some mythic+ with but of course most of them are very geared out and most of them run +10’s pretty easily and normally.
Is there anyway to make this a better expierence? When I did do mythics in season 1 I only got to 1700 rating never got very much further. I always want to try to get atleast 2500 cause I know I can do it. I’ve been playing Frost DK which right now is kinda broken and I do fairly decent dps with my ilvl but thinking of either trying blood to get more keys done or a different class not sure.
I’m just wondering what people thoughts are on pugging or do you mainly play with a group?

I pug, but I mainly play with my guild on harder keys because even if they fail me I can’t get upset at them for long, and even I make mistakes.

Getting IO in the early keys are a disaster though due to the players at that level still learning mechanics or not knowing how to play their class properly. You’ll make it to 2500 just pugging though, it’s not too difficult.

Btw never chase meta if you don’t even play the spec/class. I find players who choose flavor of the month classes terrible in any content because they think a class doing more than others in 2-3weeks will suddenly make them better players.

That was your first mistake

Second even worse mistake

Absolute worst mistake.

Besides practicing and gearing there isnt much else, when it comes to Pugs, its a coin toss if theyre competent or not.

Doing dmg is important, but so its staying alive and helping others stay alive, that means using your CCs and interrupts, DK for example can help a lot in dungeons like HoA by pulling the Houndmasters towards the pull, since these refuse to move.

You also gotta get familiar with the mechanics of the dungeons, specially the bosses, DK for example can make the second boss of Priory significantly easier, since their anti magic shield allows you to soak the fire orbs on your own without getting the debuff, making it way easier for your healer, so always use that for the 5x soak.

You also gotta learn to prioritize, theres no point in being top of the charts if the big enemy is left alive at the end at like 30% HP.

Mainly pug. It’s exceptionally bad this season, likely a result of the dungeons being pretty easy in combination with baiting the worst of all of us with KSL.

Don’t pay attention to the people that will say “easiest season ever git gud” because it’s probably their alt using OBR that is bricking your keys for you.

If you’re failing 2s, even in pugs, you’re not ready to try and progress higher without being carried. One dps knowing how to properly cc, kick and use utility can carry a group through a 2. Before doing any more keys, go watch videos or read guides on how to maximize the efficiency of your spec in M+ and go from there.

Tbf, when the group is so fundamentally bad, a single person cant carry it without being overgeared as hell.

I know from experience.

I also know from experience that I’ve single handedly carried groups through low keys as both a dps and healer simply by properly using my utility and maximizing output. Sure, if you have other players asleep at their keyboards it might not be enough, but even with minimal effort from the other players, having one good player makes a world of difference.

Tanking can definitely get you into keys faster, but there’s additional stress being the tank. You’ll be expected to know the routes, pull efficiently, pull the right packs for count, etc. If you want to tank, I’d try it out with friends that can give you guidance on mistakes you made, versus making those mistakes with random strangers.

You are likely to find effort below minimal in +13s, much less in +2s.

I mean I am not perfect in any means. There always room to improve for myself. In past seasons I’ve been able to handle higher then 2’s just fine. Most of the dungs I’ve gotten used to and everything else just seems like a collective fail at most times not just one person in my opinion. I mainly play DK not just because of the meta, i’ve always just liked the class itself. I usually dont try to play the meta really.

Bad groups can exist at every key level. That’s not the point.

If you are overskilled for the level, you can carry the group in the lowest key levels. Once you get above a 6 that starts to go away. I do it with my alts every season.

If you are overgeared and overskilled for the level, you can carry some groups in the lowest key levels.

Which is useless advice for a returning player that is neither overgeared or overskilled.

Maybe tell them to vet their groups better? Which is equally useless advice in a +2 key.

Watching a video or reading a guide and then practicing those skills is more than 95% of players are doing in that key range. It’s not useless advice at all. Knowing what the priority kicks are when the rest of the group doesn’t and handling those yourself will MASSIVELY boost your key success rate.

Go find a group of friends and do keys regularly. Do NOT Pug. You simply do not run into problems with people not kicking, doing mechanics.. etc. If you choose to pug, as a DPS plan to spend 45+ mins applying to keys and getting declined alot.. especially if you aren’t part of the current meta. This game is the best waiting room simulator if you are into that. If you are a healer or tank, you will find a quick que, sure, but at the risk of having DPS who think eating frontals is good for them. Wasting time screening pug applicants by any metric is an exercise in frustration as RIO score and Ilvl are worthless. Don’t let people sugar coat this any other way as the current mentality of this M+ community has alot to be desired.

I have 100% pugged my way to where I am now.

As of today, I have timed all dungeons at 11.

A pug like a box of chocolates, and most of them are filled with razor blades.
