Mythic plus without a Timer? No? hear me out!

I would rather fail to a “Hard boss” than fail to a “Timer”.

So the idea of mythic plus system is to make dungeons more relevant by using the key stones with different affixes, this is cool, now to make the key stone levels feel different they had to add one constant to all key stones which is the Timer, and this is cool too, however, it would also be a good idea if there is an option to start the key stone without a timer and just spend as much time as I want to finish the key stone.

Notes:

  • I know you can finish the dungeon after the timer expires but it does not feel good or rewarding to do so, actually people would rather leave and do another key stone.

  • The option for doing the dungeon without a timer should increase the difficulty of the dungeon by miles, like double the health and damage %s for the key or add one major affix (Tyrannical and Fortified together for example)

  • There should be a weekly lockout for the no-timer key stone similar to mythic raids, so the decision of farming a group should not just be there in the LFG window.

People are spending months doing mythic raids because it is very hard and require a good amount of coordination, why not having the same for dungeons?

Side note: above idea can also be applied to Island expeditions, remove the “Fill the Bar Race” and just let us spend as much time as we want in the island. and make the island`s rares really hard to kill.

Because Mythic+ dungeons are also similar to Challenger Mode Dungeons. If you make Mythic+ dungeons similar to raids, then might of well turn it into a raid. Like the idea seams good, but it does get harder the higher the key gets, and with also the poorly bad class design in BfA, then it will be forced to leave some class/specs out because it would not cope with it.

You’re going to have to change a lot to make this work or otherwise people who really want to get a high key done are going to wait out for timers like Heroism on every boss.

We don’t need another one of these threads.

Yeah why not a 5 man “mythic raid difficulty” content? the idea is to remove the timer and let people spend as much time as they want.

Removing the timer and letting people spend as much time as they want opens the door to trivializing the content. Rewards people for persistence rather than playing well.

I am not saying removing the timer totally, the current system is great, but it wont hurt to have the option to use the key without a timer but make it really hard.
Again, you can do this once in a week and you can have like 5-6 affixes.

there is nothing wrong for rewarding persistence, to be honest, most of my good memories in WoW are from persistence moments, the mage tower challenge is major example.

You can already do that. Pop the key in and ignore the timer. If you finish the dungeon you will still get two pieces of loot.

The only thing i see that you can’t do is actually level a key up, which is the point of the timer to begin with.

Do people actually think they’re going to change up m+ like this? They literally have their entire pve esport scene centered around m+ being a timed run, I don’t think they’re going to change this at all. I personally don’t want to see it change but I wouldn’t be bothered much either way, I just don’t think it’ll ever happen.

This is the way things used to be. And I 100% agree with you.

The rush rush mentality is what made me stop tanking dungeons, when Bliz decided to make it a virtue is when I mostly stopped doing dungeons. It’s a bad game direction for people like me.

Exactly, that’s why I am saying we don’t need to remove the current system, it’s working fine.
My point is to have “no-timer” as added feature/option.

They are trying something similar to what you want with the new Mega Dungeon, but here is the difficulty I foresee.

With the timers, for any reasonably competent group at the appropriate level, the question is whether you will complete the dungeon in time.

Without the timers, the question becomes: can I complete this dungeon at all?

I don’t think you will find many people willing to dedicate hours and a mountain of wipes to trying to clear a dungeon.

If they’re going to add a completely new system with new balance issues and gearing options then it’s not going to be an offshoot of m+

People actually spent many hours on dungeons at the beginning of the expansion, it depends on the rewards at the end.

This is true, but do not leave out the parts where most importantly the time spent was because people were still learning the dungeons and this also was the highest ilvl gear available at the time.

I feel like every one of these threads chooses to ignore the exact same thing that happens in raids. Raid bosses have enrage timers; whether that be a a literal timer where they one shot you, or a pseudo timer where not killing the boss fast enough overwhelms you with mechanics.

Blizzard stated they treat the entire dungeon like one big raid boss fight. It’s why you can’t switch gear, change talents, have a timer, etc.

I never looked at it this way, I think it makes sense yeah. thanks.

but still I don`t mind an option for very hard dungeons without a timer or a 5 man raid if you want to name it like that.

It sounds like you will like the new mega dungeon then

In all, I do totally understand your point of view. But pragmatically, without the timer, you don’t really make it harder, just longer.

Instead of world records for keys being 23 and stuff, people will just do 35’s cause they will lust every single pull with max cd’s, then afk till they come back. You don’t really solve anything, you just move the goalpost.

I don`t really care about the highest record as much as I care about enjoying the game, and with timers I feel like I am in rush to finish things not enjoying it.

the best example for that is the island expeditions, the idea is great but the execution is bad, because you don`t have time to even look at the art work in the island, it feels like a Race, if people have the option to go there without having to rush things, it would make a way better experience.
