Mythic Plus Dungeons the Good the Bad and the Ugly

Mythic plus dungeons. What do you think needs improvements to the game-play mechanics. What do you consider are the best things in Mythic Plus and which are the worse things that you think Bliz should change and improve upon? And what has your experience in Mythic Plus been like?

ChatGPT is that you?

Hello Meinteil. Thank you for your contribution to the topic discussion.

Good:

  • Exponential scaling of health
  • Short timeframe activities, helpful for busy gamers
  • Fun class colors I like the pretty little health bars
  • Freehold dungeon (except those stinky little grippy gregs that always try to pull me in where I do not want to be)
  • Vortex Pinnacle dungeon (especially boss number 2 and the dragons that are fun to heal)
  • Cute druids sometimes apply
  • Lovable shamans sometimes apply

Bad:

The affix rotation is bad and can cause some weeks to be “push weeks” and other weeks to have much less activity. It’s hard to convince some people to play because whatever affix sucks for them, is annoying, etc.

The Ugly:
The general “weakest link” design. More should be designed around the best player in the group and not the worst. Otherwise people never want to play with people who are worse or less experienced than they are. So basically elitism (and the fact that elitism is so logical given this game design - elitism is highly rewarded)

They need to remove affixes and focus on infinite difficulty scaling. As it is, the game mode is designed to punish non-meta builds with these absurd affixes making it significantly more difficult for certain setups than others, which is ridiculous.

Mythics have only had 1 problem: the timer. You remove the time limit and it doesn’t matter how hard the affixes are, how much damage mobs deal. Players will overcome all of that menial stuff.

But if you time them you’re forcing a very sleazy and toxic environment. Even worse is that mythics replaced heroics entirely, when they both should have been reworked at the same time.

I like this idea.

If I apply to a Heroic solo, I used to get a 15% damage buff or something like that, but queue with 1 friend and only a 5% buff, and queue with 2 friends then there’s no buff (standard). The encourages people to queue solo (which is probably not good for an MMO that should encourage friends to play together).

But a buff to the “less experienced player” sounds good on paper, but might run into the “twink” problem where you intentionally try to hold back your score, ilvl, or whatever metric is used, so that you get an optimal buff. So while it sounds good it seem like it would be hard to implement without causing undesired side-effects.

If only they had something like the current megadungeon every season, just one dungeon at the difficulty around M+16 with no timer. The other glaring problem is that the megadungeon doesn’t unlock vault rewards and that is one reason it is so hard to fill groups for it.

You’re right, the challenge will no longer matter. Good job.

How exactly has this happened? My fresh 70s still do five heroics to get a weekly Champion piece of gear and faction reputation boosts and none of them have trouble finding and completing dungeons. Heroics seem fine to me, but what do you think is wrong with them?

You should be doing mythics though why would you even do heroics when there’s plenty of catch up gear that’s much easier to acquire than heroics

The Good:

  • Something to do when not raiding

The Bad:

  • Affixes take away from the dungeon and you end up having to play an affix and not the dungeon as much.

The Ugly:

  • Affixes that stacks together making some weeks even on lower keys way harder then they should be.

IMHO, like others have said. Just remove the affix and make mob/boss health scale more and dmg mechanics do more dmg the higher the key.

If they really want to keep affixes, then make them only 1 per week and just do away with Fortified & Tyrannical all together. It would make the keys much easier to balance for the devs and less of a headache for the players.

Perhaps because you cant get useable gear from the actual heroic dungeon its self. Heroics should just be removed and replaced with Mythic 0 that also offers keys and can be used with LFG.

If you’re playing this 20 year old for a “challenge” stand in a mirror and ask yourself what you’re doing LOL.

Combat is slow, and clunky. It looks awful and plays awful. Wow is a story based game not a “hard” one

Uhh, do the same. The story in WoW is notoriously bad at this point. It’s improving? I guess. When you start at 0 there’s only 1 way to go.

Personally, I like having a mix of challenge and goofball content to do. It’s good imo there is both.

I do think there needs to be a non-timer dungeon mode, but M+ doesn’t have to die for it to exist.

I keep thinking this any time someone says they love the M+ challenge. Most of these M+ defenders only play WoW, this is the only video game most of them play. Let that sink in for a minute.

I’d never even thought of it this way, but this is so insightful. It is kind of odd that so much of the game’s failures are centered around your weakest player…that just feels bad for everyone.

The good - an end game activity that can be pugged for max level rewards.

The bad - affixes that only some specs can interact with.

The ugly - the community engaging in toxic behavior and focusing on metas.
