Mythic + Loot Changes

I hardly ever post to these forums, but I wanted to come here to offer a different perspective than many of the comments I’ve seen on reddit and here.

I think the Mythic+ loot changes are good for the game, and more fun for me in the long run.

I believe many of the people who take issue with the reduced loot rate are primarily PuGing, or are only focused on their own personal progression. This is not how an MMO is meant to be played.

You are supposed to be part of a community, part of a team. When I finish a dungeon run and a guildy gets an upgrade, I feel rewarded. My team just got stronger. I will see returns on that gear upgrade in future dungeons and raids.

If you primarily PuG you will never get the chance to see any benefit from others improvements, which just reinforces the mentatily that you only should be focused on yourself.

No matter how easy they make WoW to play in “solo mode”, at it’s core it will always be designed to play with friends. As it should be. I think the new gear rate helps reinforce that and further encourages building a community by playing with the same players again.

Yes the vast majority of them are likely pure pugging, including me for the past 4 years. The obvious reason why I did ? because I can’t commit 3 hour time blocks for raiding anymore and raid tanking/healing is the most coma-inducing activity ever conceived in gaming. Apparently blizzard just willfully ignores that the vast majority of M+ players have to and/or choose to pure pug due to circumstance and preference.

Therefore if I’m not rewarded proportionally, then I am wasting my time, even in the context of wasting my time in game activities.

Ya sure, “community”. Guy A applies with 210 ilvl because he got luckier with loot. Guy B applies with 200 ilvl because he got less lucky with loot. Both have played a similar amount of time and likely have similar skill. I’ll pick Guy A because I don’t know either of these people.

Furthermore the vast majority of people are eager to make friends with people (especially tanks) in M+ because they are frankly terribly-skilled (for lack of more colorful term) and want free carries. There I said it. It’s the truth now and it was the truth in legion + BFA.

No at it’s core it’s a fantasy RPG with 99.999% of your power derived from your gear. No gear for you = minimal or no power increase. Ilvl is king for pugging and things are a billion times more enjoyable with good secondary stat levels.

I’ll say it again in this thread: thanks classic for ruining retail.

If blizzard was actually sincere about making loot meaningful, then they would make ALL secondary stats useful for ALL specs. You know when they said they would do that ? WOD beta 2015 after announcing the removal of reforging. Maybe I can wait another 5 years until crit is made useful for my prot pally or haste made useful for my brewmaster. I suppose this is another classic theme where it should “feel good” that so much loot is garbage ?

I think the loot quantity is probably appropriate, but I’m not convinced of the item level structure with M+.

If you run 10 dungeons at level 10+ it can easily take you 13-15 hours by the time you find groups, get to dungeons, maybe you wipe or fail a few times, etc. That is far more time than most guilds raiding hours except for the very most hardcore, and you’re barely getting loot that is better than normal raid gear.

This balance is just way off currently, IMO.

Soon enough that will take ~6. Which is pretty on past with raid schedules. Can’t really add in “time to find a group” because you’re comparing that to a guild and while the rank and file may not spend time recruiting, your officers do.

I mean sure, but they are also getting mythic quality loot. Not worse than heroic quality loot.

Yes I too like how mythic raiders conveniently ignore that they DO actually have a non-zero chance of getting mythic raid gear from the actual mythic raid content.

You time a +20 key on live ? “Here’s your sub-heroic reward, aren’t you thankful ?”

The rebuttal of “but M+ is spammable” is irrelevant because spamming for garbage gear might as well be spamming for no gear. Furthermore you could limit weekly (not talking about the weekly chest) mythic raid rewards from the actual content to X (subject to tuning) pieces per week at a high enough timed key level.

No average pure pug player, even a tank pug host, will be averaging 10 timed key runs at reasonable difficulty level within 6 hours. This isn’t legion.

By reasonable difficulty, do you mean 14s? 14s might be a white whale right now, but they will be as laughable as they were soon.
