If wow hasn’t turned the game into esports how has it attempted to push esports?
How much talking do you want in a key? The vast majority of runs can be summed up with 2 chat entries, “Hey” and “ggs”.
A post key commendation system would be great.
You say that and yet I have friends who actively play ff14 and trust me, it’s not a pleasant as you think, people there are just as toxic and especially when they like to whip out the ff14 logs
Perfection is the enemy of progress.
Addons are banned in FF14, but they do still exist and the devs know they are used, but because addons are banned people don’t talk about them much because it’s just a silent known thing. Positivity is encouraged in FF14 in many ways and
It’s the same reason why laws exist; they don’t exist to outright prevent crime entirely, but to deter people from committing acts, mitigate their impact, and also have a way to determine punishments. Most people abide by the laws, but there are people who won’t. That’s just the reality of how life works. Just imagine how life would be if murder and theft wasn’t illegal because “well some people still do it”
The point I’m making is it’s not really a valid argument to point out “You think it’s all sunshines and roses, but it’s not perfect” because perfection does not exist. It’s valid to criticize ineffective methods that are not getting the results you expect, but people like to argue this kind of stance all the time as if it’s possible to achieve 100% compliance with anything and it’s not.
The people who claim WoW doesnt have a good culture, are 100x more toxic than anything I regularly experience in game.
The whole “durr durr WoW population bad” is such an over used exaggeration I start to instantly dismiss anyone stating it.
FFXIV is not as pleasant as people say.
WoW is not as unpleasant as people say.
The only different is PR.
I don’t think WoW culture is beyond toxic and terrible, but my own experience is that in pug groups people are very self centered, gogogogo mentality and people can get easily frustrated if people don’t know how to do things halfway through a season and that can create a bad new player experience. Beyond toxic social behavior (name-calling, etc) it’s pretty taboo to rush through a dungeon with a new player in it for FF14 as you let them experience the story whereas in WoW if you sit back and watch a cutscene you come back to the rest of the group two rooms down the dungeon.
As someone pugging through M+ this season I haven’t hit a massive block of angry players, but I have had groups go south a few times and there are some where they lose their minds over it. Honestly, most of my experience has been pretty chill though.
As people should be. Wanting anything else is selfish.
laughs in validation
Doesn’t FFXIV forcibly stop you from playing during cutscenes?
No.
You can actually google this and AI will tell you how to skip it, and then tell you about proper dungeon etiquette. Change it to be about WoW and that etiquette bit disappears because AI, being the tech that it is, isn’t finding anyone talking about dungeon etiquette in WoW across the internet whereas it does with FF14.
That is skipping the cutscene and watching it on your own time.
Really isn’t.
Etiquette is determined by what most people do. That’s skipping cutscenes and rushing to the end.
Bro, you asked. You thought you had some gotcha about how FF14 just doesn’t let you skip cutscnes but they do; it just so happens their culture is different and, as I said originally, it’s considered taboo to skip through cutscenes with a new player so they get to experience the game and the story organically rather than on youtube.
If you want to move the goalposts have fun with that, but we were talking about different cultures across games and you have really just helped highlight my point about the differences. I’m pretty sure I never said WoW culture is toxic and awful, but what I said is the playerbase is far more self centered than FF14’s population is about this kind of stuff.
Either you get that or you don’t.
Sounds like either misinformation or you get banned for not being nice. It doesn’t feel organic.
Just say you don’t get it and we can move on ![]()
Reading reddit threads, seems just as many people complaining.
Oooooooooooh so we are taking to forums across the internet into account now to validate our arguments? Awesome, head out of this thread to read up on how awful and toxic WoW culture is.
People complain about others who don’t bend to their whims.
In either game?
Lol.
This is very true. I leveled a tank in FF14. When I ran one of the raids for the story, I can’t remember the name of the boss, the one where the tank has to hold her/his shield up and it blocks the boss’s giant weapon from coming down on the raid? Anywho, everyone in the raid told me to be the tank that blocks it. I had no idea what they were talking about, but it was the freaking coolest thing ever. Not just the fight but the fact that they were excited for me to experience that.
Really good community.
But dont you see the irony?
“I want these other people to care about me more than they care about themselves” is the alternative
How is that not selfish?
