Mythic+ has probably damaged WoW worse than anything ever added

I’m not completely opposed to this solution, though I do worry about the players that like to play multiple forms of content. The gear management is a nothing burger to me because that could be solved fairly easily. But the player who wants to reach higher levels of content in multiple endgame pillars would have to farm twice the gear. Perhaps a solution like PVP gear today where crossover gear isn’t useless, but it gets outclassed very quickly by appropriately sourced gear, would work better.

No, they wouldn’t have to farm twice the gear. They’d just play at the level they’re supposed to as the gear allows.

(Which given pvp crossover would be like all normal gear or something.)

I mean that’s just semantics and you know it. When I got the polearm off Rashok, I have my BIS weapon for both raid and M+. I don’t need to target a different weapon for M+ because of the polearm not being usable.

Yeah that’s fine. The point is just that any item you get in the current season can be a good enough option until I get something out of the appropriate location without losing TOO much. But not having even that if it’s a total iron curtain would feel miserable.

Purposely handicapping your power in the content you want to do because you need to spam trivial content for hours doesn’t feel super great.

It would be one thing if gearing from keys was a similar challenging to progging the raid, but it isn’t.

And I enjoy keys.

I even dislike farming keys for gear for keys themselves.

Anytime someone complains about the lfg experience for m+, lets remind ourselves that arena lfg was so awful that they made a different game mode and the ladder dried up overnight.

It doesn’t, but that’s still rationalizing why other players should be limited in how they play the game for your benefit. That’s the quiet part I was referencing. If I like M+ and raid, forcing me to artificially limiting my ability to become more powerful for raid because you feel the need to keep up with the Jones’s otherwise also doesn’t feel great.

I fully agree that keys are too easy for how rewarding they are, but that is a sliding scale that hasn’t remained constant. It used to be that max M+ gear was measurably weaker than max raid gear, and max M+ gear was also much more difficult to get than it is today. I’d love for Blizzard to move rewards up in M+.

But let’s also not pretend like these calls haven’t been coming fierce and quick ever since M+ gear was available. You personally may not have been amongst those vocal when rewards weren’t as slanted toward M+. But there were many who did call for restricting if not removing M+ gear so raiders didn’t feel the need to farm it even when raid gear was significantly better.

Is it really intentional when m+ is scathingly exhausting? I always chalked it up to season 1 growing pains.

That’s a problem with raid that they could fix at any time.

And it’s removed because in season 1 of Shadowlands, PvP gear was so important (not just for raids, but also for m+) that it caused something of a crisis point in the game.

The complete and total dominance of M+ gear in dictating the tuning of all other content in the game is another crisis point, the game needs another separation wall, like they put in for PvP gear after Shadowlands season 1.

Well i mean pvp is bad and raid the loot is bad and i dont wanna deal with 20 people, m+ didnt kill anything

I wish equipping alternate sets of gear works just as it does with Diablo 4 weapons. (Cause you can equip multiple weapons.)

But thinking of representing that cleanly UI wise.

They could put in multiple paper dolls, they could cap the gear you’re wearing to your prog in the content you’re doing, there are lots of ways they could do it.

yea multiple paper dolls would be my preference. I don’t want to manage two sets of gear in bags. (Or three if I were to pvp as well.)

Or just have different load-outs. The game already does that with talent builds.

The problem with loadouts is forgetting to swap. (And I do sometimes.)

Then you either end up playing it or swapping when it’s too late (m+)

Have flags on the loadouts for different content and have it swap them for that content. If you zone into a dungeon, the game prompts you to load one of your dungeon-flagged loadouts.

That would be great. (I’m sure there should be a weakaura already with this type of functionality.)

And the easy gear is the reason people play it.

This was clear back in 2020/2021 when everyone who said how much they loved M+, was singing the exactly opposite tune when Blizzard nerfed the gear amount.

Some even said outright, ‘The fun is in getting easy gear and now Blizzard has ruined it!’.

Because it makes your community hypercompetitive and toxic and no sane developer wants that in their MMORPG.

But gear has gotten even easier in m+

Anything with challenging content will do this.

Its ok for their to be a variety of content.

Its ok for different games to be different.
