Sooner or later, someone somewhere will come up with an addon that tracks who is a mythic+ deserter. First person to leave and all that jazz. And when that addon is made, it is going to store a history on who is a mythic+ deserter, and who isn’t and when that happens, mythic+ deserting is going to become a permanent blight on ANY toon that does it.
Unless… blizzard gets to it first. When people abandon a mythic+ they don’t get punished today. Its an easy one click and forget. It is terrible behaviour to just up and quit in the middle of a mythic run. Yeah, life happens, but people should still be flagged as a mythic deserter for anywhere between 3 days to a week as punishment for deserting. No, being flagged won’t prevent you from joining mythic+ groups, but it will let other players know that your not reliable and to only join a group with the deserter if the group is pushing the key of the deserter.

ive been in groups where leaving is the only option. Not just to save face but also to get away from complete jerks.
but all of that happens 10 below. 10 and above everyone is on best behavior.

Yeah no that’s not going to happen. I’m firmly in the camp of compete the instance even if you know you’re gonna miss the timer. This is a personal choice on my part. But I’ve had key runs where everyone else thought they were tank…or said yes we know the fight, but really didn’t…Wound up being a carry for their friend but didn’t state it in the ad.

No because a system like that wouldn’t distinguish between valid excuses and trolls. This would just help to form an even more toxic environment

Well i guess they need to have an addon for people who leave raids cause of deaths or only wanted 1 boss crap like that. it ain’t fair to only be tracking mythic plus and not raids eh? you probably joined a raid who said full clear and left before. whats the difference?

Lmfao… I’ve found that it happens 10x as often in higher keys. Especially, when you get into the 15-20 range. People get so hung up on beating time for IO scores, that the second they sense they aren’t going to do it or there’s a wipe, they either alt+f4 ninjalog or trash talk everyone and then leave.

This has been talked to death and there is no way to actually descern who is a deserter and who just left a group that all decided to stop.
The game would need new systems like some kind of vote to disband thing or something similar.
Instead, what needs to happen is a return to focus on completing keys needs to occur and there needs to be some recourse for the key holder when things dont go to plan.
There is absolutely no reason keys need to deplete like they do, and certainly not after some chump leaves 5 minutes in.
The best way to solve this as i see it is with a currency system.
I believe i have outlined a pretty good system and made a video explaining how and why it would work.
It would be too long to type it all out, but long story short is currency you get from completing keys that gives you the ability to reroll your key, and even upgrade it very infrequently.
If they did this, people would no longer be leaving keys 5 minutes in.
The big problem that causes that is raiderio score is more important to then than anything the end result gives.
Ironically raiderio could solve this problem as well but they arent interested in improving their system for pugging, despite it being used so rampantly for just that.
If i were blizzard i would look at this as lazy and borderline predatory use of community power and have to step in and invalidate their scoring system.

What if “Missing the timer” is looking to be a 3 hour endeavor ?
Like, you’re 20 minutes in, and the first boss isn’t dead, the trash to it isn’t even cleared and you’re wiping twice for every mob that dies in the dungeon.
Are you still firmly in your camp then ?

Leaving raids has no impact, unlike a key where the key cannot be completed and is automatically minus one’d.
Leaving a raid just means the leader picks someone else in the Group Finder and moves on. That’s pug raiding, if you can’t stand people leaving mid run after a boss, find a guild to raid with.

ya thats a hard one man. Try to examine the group before joining with a critical eye. Banter and test the waters to see if they are super serious no fun allowed mega ragers.

There could be an “abandon” option for the group for no penalties.
You might wanna not pug anything else again if you leave the moment someone is a jerk.
It would be hard to implement something like this where it wouldn’t be abused to create an even more toxic experience for people trying to pug keys.
Sometimes life happens and it’s not avoidable. If something like this were to be added, I think we would have to have a vote disband option as well that would circumvent punishment for groups who agree to end the key early.
I’ve seen a lot of elitism in keys that are 8, 9 and 10.
Like, calm down, you’re literally in a 10 Atal’Dazar.

You can invite someone new to a raid. You can’t do that in M+. There’s a huge difference.

So punish the key holder for someone else’s jerk move? Did I misunderstand that? I really hope I did…

I think you just don’t understand what the word “recourse” means.

I guarantee you that there is no WoW API function that allows you to detect if a person bails from a dungeon.
That’s what I get for being mostly asleep when I try to read. Fail me.
Is this really a problem for some people? I’ve pugged hundreds of M+ now and had maybe 3-4 deserters total.
