Mystic+ help

Returning player, quit when ICC came out back in wrath and decided to come back, can someone explain mystic+ dungeons to me pls, like where to start and how do they work

Ever play Diablo 3? Like greater rifts.

You have several layers of dungeon difficulty.
Normal
Heroic
Mythic (Known as Mythic 0s) Once you complete a mythic 0, you will be given a keystone to boost the dungeon difficulty. Enter any mythic and you will see a pedestal. Just put your key into that to boost the dungeon. The dungeons will increase from mythic +2 and up. Mythic +2 will give the first affix, +3 the next, +7 for the third, +10 for the last and season affix.

Start with a Mythic dungeon, not a mythic+ dungeon, a mythic one. This is a dungeon that’s a little harder than heroic, with slightly better loot, and each boss will have one extra mechanic. You get a chance at loot from every boss, like a normal levelling dungeon, and at the end the final boss will award you with a mythic keystone for one of 8 dungeons, 4 current dragonflight dungeons and 4 from WoW’s past.

This key will have a level, initially it’s 2. This level equates to the amount of scaling / difficulty present in the key. Upon entering any of the 8 dungeons available on mythic difficulty, you will notice a small pedestal in the starting area, interacting with this will give you the option to “Insert Keystone”, starting a Mythic+ run based on the keystone inserted. The runs are timed, but you will always receive loot from the chest at the end of the run (Not the bosses as you go) as long you complete it. The timer just impacts what happens to your key at the end.

  • Clearing your key on a level will randomly roll it to another of the 8 dungeons, as well as increase its difficulty by 1-3 depending on how fast you were.

  • Failing to clear the key in time will reduce its level by 1 (But not below 2) and reroll it to another of the 8 dungeons.

  • Upon activating the key in the dungeon, its level will be reduced by 1 (But not below 2), meaning if you were to not complete it at all for whatever reason the key would just be reduced.

You can either use your own key or join someone else’s group where they will use theirs. Mythic+ does not use the automated group maker, and instead requires players to use LFG to advertise / post their group, or form it through some other means such as guild or friends. It’s old school, like pre ICC wrath.

The dungeons themselves are effectively just harder versions of the regular mythic dungeon, mobs and bosses have more HP and do more damage. There are also 4 affixes which are introduced as the key level increases. One which decides if the trash will be harder or the bosses (Which alternates each week), two which augment / provide extra difficulty by adding mechanics or interactions (Which change weekly), and one which stays for the whole season and is usually themed after the current raid’s end boss.

To break that down, this week we have.

  • Fortified: Trash has more hp and does more damage
  • Raging: Mobs deal increased damage when at low hp.
  • Quaking: Periodically (Chance every 20 seconds, never more than 60s apart) a circle will appear around your character, when the circle expires it will interrupt you and deal damage to anyone around you inside the circle.
  • Thundering (The season affix): Every 60 seconds in combat, the group will be debuffed with 3 red and 2 blue buffs split between 5 people, pair off your buffs before the timer runs out.

Clearing a dungeon on a difficulty you haven’t done before will award you some score, score in mythic+ isn’t like PvP rating and serves as more just a quick summary of your experience that season. There are gear / cosmetic rewards available at different score levels, and it’s a way players can quickly assess what level of keys you’ve successfully timed this season.

Step 1: Run Mythic 0 to grab a key or talk to the person next to the Great Vault for one.
Step 2: Open Group Finder and post your key.
Step 3: Run key.

M+ basically scales infinitely. Rewards come from end of dungeon drops and the vault on reset day. The rewards scale to M+20.

There are affixes, up to 4, as you go up in key level.

If you played back in WotLK, you should remember how people used to speedrun dungeons by the time ICC came out. It’s basically that, just with a timer now.

It may seem complicated when you’re first starting out, but honestly the best way to learn at this point is to just jump in to low keys once your gear is good enough. It might be a good idea to watch some videos to get a heads-up for the basic dungeon mechanics you should know, since there are a handful that you can’t do on regular Mythic right now (dungeons from older expansions in the M+ pool).
