So you may have heard about the Winds of Mysterious Fortune event. You may have heard the prize bags contained “cosmetics” and “become excited” by that.
Well don’t get too excited. The cosmetics are a lavender (gray) recolor variant of the Timely Tourist’s appearances from the anniversary event. A set so unremarkable, I’ve never seen a player wearing it.
Anyway you came here to minmax your prize bags. So log into a 1-79 alt, go to a dragonflight (or TWW) zone, and kill a mob at the pools SW of valdrakken. You’ll get your daily epic prize bag. Done and done. If you want to kill a few more mobs, you’ll get 1-2 blue quality bags. Then switch to another alt.
The bags are a time based drop. So you’ll get the same number of bags killing a mob, going AFK for 20 minutes, and killing another mob, as you would frantically killing monsters for 20 minutes straight.
I’m glad we’ve totally decoupled effort and reward to demoralize people into not even trying. It’s very… modern.
Man, that brings back memories. Popping the potion that increased the splinter drop rate and quickly killing something every like, 10 mins? and hurrying back to the hub to freeze the buff duration. I unlocked every hero doing that, man I miss that game.
No problem! I’ve since learned the best way to stack the potion buffs too. The gnolls in azure span. Center left of the map, they’re clustered around a water feature for the most part. (don’t have coordintes, sorry)
If you’re a super overpowered level 10-20 you can stack up 2hrs of the each potion buff in about 10 minutes. The valuable ones are the +10% runspeed and +10% haste.
My investigations started with my level 11 twinks, and I noticed they got a satchel straight away and then hardly anything afterwards. The second day I noticed a satchel straight away again, then hardly anything. So I established the low hanging fruit was on a daily lockout.
From there I had to find somewhere near valdrakken that was easy because I planned to do it on many alts. I wasn’t having a whole lot of luck on the edges of macaroni plains, or waking shores, but then I found the pools in thaldraszus. And those frogs and dragonflies were paying out!
I saw someone else (on reddit? youtube?) mention some birds on the valdrakken bank. But I couldn’t find those. If you can find those, I imagine they’d be even easier.
Well thank you again . . . again. I certainly appreciate your efforts figuring out the scheme and then sharing. The pools location is about an easy as you can get, bank birds or not! You can literally dive bomb over the flight point, crafting area, and updraft whereas just below the latter are mosquito spawns. It takes me longer to log in than to grab the satchel and log out!
I’d like to add to your findings that at this point, I’m confident that I’ve determined a couple of trends in terms of the contents contained in the drops. This is after farming for a week or so on well over a dozen toons. Now to preface, I can only commit that this may only apply to the epic-quality Pristine Satchels, however I am nearly certain with that said.
First drop per character, only once per toon, will contain the 30-slot, Fortuitous Satchel bag.
Thus far, on ungeared newbies, weapons appear to be a guaranteed drop the first time and are highly likely otherwise.
If you’re farming using brand new toons don’t forget to select accordingly (e.g. Arms spec for Fury Warrior to ensure 2h weapons, Survival Hunter for melee weapons) as to target the right gear.
Fun fact about those bags. If you try to put more than one in your warband bank, they just vanish completely, forever.
I’m not sure what blizzard was afraid of. People stockpiling outdated bags? You can safely mail multiple of them around. Just keep em out of the warband bank.
Very strange. I was loading them in rapidly and they just seemed to vanish. I’ve since sorted the warband and no empty slots are at the locations the bags normally would be sorted to in tab 1.
So I’ve lost my sacks. Hang on to yours! And thank you for the info.
If you think you have lost them, put in a report on the Bug forum. In the meantime maybe try stacking 2 of them on a single toon rather than the warband and see if happens there.
You can also Queue for Ruby life pools as a follow dungeon while standing in the city. Kill the 1st mob loot and leave instance. I find this the fastest way to obtain the satchels.
