My take on the ICC buff. Also the need for flex raiding in cata

So you think these topics aren’t related? Let me explain.

The big issue is that the ICC buff makes the raid too easy. Some guilds are still progressing. Back in the day this ruined ICC for me. Players are better now so the buff isn’t needed.

But most pugs doing normal mode can’t clear. This is a problem.

So I do think the buff is needed but there are three catches.

  • It starts already at 30%.
  • But if you use it, bosses drop lower item level gear.
  • You cannot have the buff for heroic mode.
  • The item level drop does not effect tier tokens

this keeps dedicated heroic guilds busy instead of just handing them the rest of their progression.

Pugs can now clear. They can choose to do early bosses for higher level gear and turn on the buff when bosses get too hard for them.

For cata this problem can be resolved differently. There needs to be three difficulties, like in the last raid of MoP. Flex, Normal and Heroic.

Cata had the problem where raids weren’t pugged enough so they got nerfed. This made some guilds feel that content was too easy, while also feeling that hard mode was too difficult. The 3 difficulties is a sweet spot. Flex mode is for pugs that aren’t as coordinated, while the Normal mode keeps many guilds busy for a while. This is the solution to ever needing the buff. No one needs to feel like a raid has been nerfed too soon but also gives everyone something for them.

Please rethink how the ICC buff rolls out. For me it was a low point of wrath and it would be a better experience to not have that happen again. I came to classic for hard raids, I want to work for those boss kills, not get it because it’s nerfed into the ground.

the last idea doesn’t even make sense given the third idea.
