Yes i’m aware that Rating-based gearing is no longer a thing in DF, and for obvious reasons as it has proven to be a catastrophic failure in every way conceivable with NO pros whats and it’s biggest legacy is killing the SL pvp scene as its turned off so many.
The question is, why hasn’t it been removed from SL? If Blizzard can remove CQ cap so easily & drop a patch, why not do the same with rating based gearing? ESPECIALLY since blizzard is handing out free SL copies.
A lot of those returning players do PvP and are bound to have a bad time. This is bad for retaining their engagement and interest towards purchasing DF.
Rating Based Gearing was created to encourage social interaction(and boosters on the side). On paper the intentions may have been pure, except it backfired.
It’s not remotely ‘competitive’ when you get stomped by someone 30 ilvl’s higher than you
It inherently created a elitist ecosystem where those without friends are screwed. Even making groups get’s you no where, takes long to fill & disbands first loss.
As for people who have friends, yeah Rating based gearing screws you over too no one is ever really safe from it’s wrath unless you’re a streamer, booster or top 1%er who only plays WoW or something. It’s MMR system+Comp based nature practically destroys friendships really easily over wanting to do PvP and this is a struggle i know too well. Be it you or your friend not wanting to switch classes cus of a meta or as i recently got told by a ‘’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’‘friend’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’ i did Arenas the other week(and did well) ‘nah man you’d tank my rating’.
Whatever ‘social aspect’ intentions Rated based gearing had. It definitely backfired and only did the opposite. When even having friends is not enough, that’s when you know something went really wrong.
My friend’s sub has ended. He’s the only person i did Arenas with. He’s gone. LFG and everything else is a lost cause.
I have no possible way of progressing now. The links are gone. And with that, my desire to play. I only re-subbed because my friend wanted to play, we had our fun, it’s over. Nothing can bring me back now unless rating is removed because i do enjoy PvP casually but i can’t if i’m getting ganked by dudes 30ilvl’s higher.
