Died. No internet until after work tomorrow.
Yeah, DSL sucks. It’s all I can afford. 20 down. 0.6 up. It’s an abomination.
I think cable and DSL are mutually exclusive. Cable comes through a cable, DSL is through a phone line iirc. I had it when I was poor years ago. Terrible stuff.
I still pull roughly 40-50 lat with DSL, so i have no complaints. I just have to travel to a store that sells the cables tomorrow after work.
I have 1000 MBs cable internet for $115 a month.
Either your DSL is dirt cheap or you don’t make a lot.
Either way, I feel your pain. I went DSL back before cable internet became affordable and there were times when it was really terrible. It really hasn’t improved, and I’m surprised it’s even offered anymore.
Ha. I got 6 down, .2 up.
Farmland sucks, I miss having reliable internet.
Here’s hoping the local cable internet makes it down my street, we’re the only one in the county without it. ![]()

If only all that government money for nationwide high speed internet we gave the cable companies did something other than line executives pockets. ![]()
12 Down, .75 Up DSL for me. Rural Des Moines. Better than crappy mediacom. Old infrastructure they hate to replace. Their cable was always down for me
This DSL is way slower but its old trusty and never goes down
Yeah you can thank the politicians for not knowing enough about cable companies a couple decades ago and they just let those companies divide up the country and write the laws governing them.
I saw a video a while back where they called it “the summer of love”. It was pretty gross the dirty practices they were doing back then. Edit: And still are today.
I have mediacom. Lowest consumer rated ISP in the nation 2 years running!
They are seriously awful. And of course, no other choice in this area.
Be sure to buy an extra.
Store one of them. You might not need them this year or maybe next year.
But when something like this happens, you won’t have downtime again.
It’s pretty common in rural areas. A lot of places just don’t have the population density for ISPs to consider it worth it to run cable/fiber very far past the center of town. My parents live ~3 miles from the center of town and their choices are DSL, dial-up, or satellite. They’ve got 6 down and the only reason they even have that is they’re grandfathered in; their ISP doesn’t offer that anymore.
Idk where your at. But in my area it was down every night due to old lines across the street. And they would take a week to fix it. They never credited you on your acct. They are so god awful!
that sux
i have 50/25, its not terrible
but its only 8$ USD a month so i cant complain

(i run a small biz so its supplemented hehe)
Unlimited data and a phone hotspot!
Wow, DSL still exists???
I have cox cable Internet, which continues to just have outlandishly insane speeds as well as a ping to Blizzard like I’m living next door now (in Nebraska…)
I don’t even have the “unlimited”, but am limited to a rather generous Data Plan: 1024 GB.
Even going totally nuts, the closest I got to that was about 370 gig during the month of October. I seem to average 327-374 Gig a month. This is with doing a lot of “media” downloading, as well as when I do a full game or something on the Xbox One.
In Australia we just call this internet lol
Also in Iowa. Which is also where mediacom seems to be at their absolute worst.
And yes, their nightly routine of “we don’t know what internet service is between 12am and 6am” is absolutely insane and mind boggling.
Home sales around here are tanking because the only ISP available is Mediacom which isn’t compatible with the modern middle class family.
When your ISP is so bad it crashes the real estate market, you must be in Iowa.
Cannot wait to put this state in my rear view.
I’m so, so sorry you have DSL. If I were the praying type, I’d pray for your infrastructure upgrade.
Meanwhile I’m paying Xfinity $50 for an extra unlimited data so that I wouldn’t be limited to the data cap…
