My server is dying. Through no fault of their own, most Alliance guilds transferred off once it was available because of a slight faction imbalance. The opening of transfers spiraled out of control as more Alliance leaving started a cascading effect.
Now we are 95-98% Horde dominated server and even now major Horde guilds are transferring off because they know the AQ event will not be completed because of a lack of Alliance present. There has been no official announcement regarding AQ gates and if they will open after a set period of time for struggling servers such as my own.
If the gates do not open then raiding is dead on my server. The gates will not open if Alliance don’t complete their portion of the opening sequence. Guilds transfer off because they can’t raid. A slow spiral towards a dead server.
You may say that Horde can help Alliance complete the quests as they are faction neutral. While theoretically possible, I don’t think Horde will help complete the Alliance portion simply because it would take too much time and effort and our population has been steadily decreasing every month which does not help. The solution is so simple: Just transfer off. I don’t think they will work together and complete the quests.
Ever since I started playing again, I see Org becoming emptier every week. Auction house prices inflating and total auctions posted decreasing. Seeing friends transfer off, friends that I’ve added while leveling disappearing from my friends list without saying a word. Only learning later that their guild decided to transfer off. I have letters in my bank that I saved from new friends I made in classic while leveling. Those people are no longer on my server and I can’t add them to my friends list anymore.
Very unlucky that I decided to roll on this server I suppose. Feelsverybadman.
Edit:
A lot of people are accusing me of camping FPs and killing so many Alliance until they transfer off. I quit 1 month after Classic released due to being burnt out from leveling. I didn’t start playing again until recently.
funny…there were servers back in vanilla that the alliance faction had to get horde alts and do all the collection/turn in for the horde side because horde boycotted it (further behind in progression) and yet those PvP servers managed to get the gates open in a decent amount of time. The Gates will be opened just may take a little bit longer then other servers.
Back in vanilla the story was that low population servers that couldn’t complete the turn ins the AQ gates got opened automatically. I don’t know that’s true because my server completed the turn ins but I didn’t seen any posts on the forums claiming it didn’t happen. Most likely at some point the gates will open whether the turn ins are completed or not.
No fault of your own? You followed the bandwagon onto a majority horde realm, then proceeded to EXTERMINATE the alliance until the realm became 99%. You dug this hole. Now you’ll have to feed materials to the enemy faction to open the gates. Don’t cry to Blizzard to open your AQ gate for you.
“you should have known better”
“you should just transfer”
“you should encourage others to transfer to your server”
Things ignorant people will say. Blizzard mismanaged the entire launch and how their server populations were regulated and maintained. It was basically the wild west when they instituted paid transfers, and when they did free transfers, they let them go on far too long in some cases. Or only allowed you to transfer to completely dead servers that should have never been opened in the first place.
What kind of an MMO company, just has open transfers off a server, for the lower population side, to the point where it gets below 30%? let alone below 5%
The kind that sells paid transfers. “Create a problem, sell the solution”, that’s how the industry works now days. It’s made them a fortune too.
People have figured out how to do an entire factions portion with alts and the neutral AH, if a one sided server had enough guilds working to open it, it won’t even take forever, but if your faction is leaving then theres nothing you can do but pay blizzard to move to a different server.
I know they didn’t start doing this till wotlk, when they opened gates that were still shut and had all new servers drop with the gates open, but I could see them opening all the gates after a period of time.
