My Saved UI's keep disappearing

Every now and then, my saved UI’s — that I spent lots of time dabbling, tweaking and fixing to either my account or various characters keep disappearing.

— As in it’s been clean slated. There’s only the ‘standard’ and the ‘classic’ ones that you begin with.

This is the THIRD time it’s happened, and forgive the blunt language but quite frankly it’s pissing me off. I had a ticket opened for a few days which I closed this morning because I had a false sense of security that it wouldn’t do it a third time — However, here we are.

Is there a way to restore the UI’s we had saved if we hadn’t exported them?
Or is it simply ’Tough luck, get bent – Enjoy wasting your time setting them up again’ ?

I don’t know how custom layouts are saved for the UI, if locally or on the server, but my guess is locally. So if it’s not saving, something may be interfering with that, something that is stopping local permissions.

I’m not sure you can recover that when lost, save to see if there is something stored in your wow install path, especially if you are not installing the game in a default path.

My only thought is you can import and export these now though, so if you are finding it constantly resetting, try exporting it, then import it again when you find it missing again.

You might also want to submit a bug report.

That’s what I’d done, however the ones I exported are outdated from the changes I made throughout practicing gameplay with them, along with new ones I hadn’t saved yet. :sob:

Yeah, I know a few of my guildies were frustrated having experienced the same ordeal so perhaps that’s a good poke to give Blizzard the initiative on fixing the perplexing issue. :grimacing: Although, I’m sure they have a lot on their plate right now :sweat_smile:

This has happened to me several times since the launch of the pre-patch. I turned all of my addons back on and have not had as many issues…

Honestly, the solution I use now is by:

  • Going into ‘EDIT MODE’ → click the ‘Layout’ drop down → select ‘Share’ and hit ‘Copy to Clipboard’

  • After that, I open up ‘NOTEPAD’ on my computer and CTRL V (or right click & hit ‘paste’) to throw it in there, then save the UI and whatever name I used for it in a file within.

  • So that way, if or when it disappears — I can open up the notepad files I saved on my computer, copy them and hit the drop down in WoW ‘Import’ to restore the UI’s I once had from there.

I don’t trust WoW’s so called alleged ‘Saved’ system in the UI layouts. So the above is a good alternative solution, or a contingency at best. :slight_smile: – Just be sure to update them if you change your UI layouts / replace the files you created with any alterations made to your UI. :grin:
