This is a major issue for me. I went into multiple alts and modified the HUD/UI layout since I don’t want to use the default layout. Very time consuming. I logged into WOW this afternoon and none of my saved layouts were there! This must be fixed. I can’t keep spending hours fixing my layouts for each alt. I have 30 alts! Please fix.

I also am running into this issue this morning. I had made several layouts and all of them are now gone.
Also for me, have checked characters on multiple realms. I found a work-around and that apparently this is a known issue from beta, in the WTF folder you need to delete the current (text) file called edit-mode-cache-account, and rename “edit-mode-cache-account.old” as “edit-mode-cache-account.txt”.
I am keeping a copy of the correct file separately where I can find it.
It was hugely disturbing to me and if it had not been such an easy fix, it probably would have been the straw that broke the Cihy’s back…

Tried your fix but it didn’t work for me, unfortunately. Hopefully it works for others though.

So after the mess last night, I gave up & moved on to other things outside of WoW. This morning, I log in to find that my UI is again reset. So I fix it, save as New layout, then log onto my next toon to rinse & repeat & my UI layout that I saved is gone. Go back on my main that I made the layout on & the damn UI’s been reset AGAIN! I’m about to go back to Dominos. 
Sorry it didn’t work for you, Highpriest. I’m currently going back through each of my characters and applying the saved fixed from the Edit Menu. Also resetting my Addons.

I hate to ask a really obvious question, but did name them when you saved them? I missed that step the first time. Silly me.
Yes I did name my layout & I hit save. I have remade this layout sooooooo many times between beta & live. I don’t wanna keep doing it but I have the premade ones
This just happened to me as well. I swapped from Destruction to Affliction on my Warlock who’s currently doing the Legion artifact weapons and it was just gone. Swapped to the character that made it and it was gone there too.
Tried out the half baked ui and had everything reset on me when I swapped talents. Never reinstalled my ui addons so quick before. I really want whatever defenders of the new ui are smoking. As well as those who made it. But I suppose it’s on me for thinking a Blizz feature would work better than a third party.
Thank you! Your fixed worked for me. Kind of. The layout that I had customized is now available in the drop down list. I’ll still have to reselect it on every character, but at least it’s there!

Thank you Cihys. Your method saved me. Once I saw that my UI was back to normal, I made copies of both “edit-mode-cache-account.old” and “edit-mode-cache-account.txt” and put them in a folder on my desktop.

I had the same problem, but have no fear, the fix is here:
If you go into your _ retail_ WTF< account>< user> folder there is a file called edit-mode-cache-account.OLD. This is a backup of your UI settings. Make a backup of edit-mode-cache-account.txt and then open it up and paste the contents of your .OLD into the .txt. Log out and back in and you’ll be good.
Mind you, if you “relog” and get the old “World Server is Down”, this same “losing your saved edits” will happen again… wash/rinse/repeat and remember this is a small indie company.

I tried the fix but no luck, I wonder if the length of time since your UI reset has anything to do with why it doesn’t work since the .old file had the newer UI layout that I’d made rather than my original one.
