My ret idea

Hear me out. How about ret has a melee range ability that they have to land every say… 5 seconds. This ability then makes their ranged abilities ranged again.

This way the “melee” class has to at least get into melee range every now and then and there’s some skill expression that can let the better rets pull ahead of the pack. :slight_smile:

I don’t play ret and it could be a dumb idea, but I’m really tired of a ret never touching my hunter and doing oppressive damage or rets playing like a dev evoker against my warrior.

Maybe it can be off GCD and not really do that much damage. Hell even make it their slow. Idgaf.

If this were arena only I would be fine with it, but sometimes in BGs ranged attacks are all I can land on Mages and MM Hunters.

I hear you, but other melee also have this exact same problem. People just want more and more melee abilities to be ranged. Even saw a warrior thread asking for more range on their attacks. Unholy is pretty much ranged at this point too.

Kiting is already almost pointless aside from pulling the enemy healer out, but soon every class will just be an easier survival hunter.

When Ret is no longer the default base sitter I’ll agree with this.

Rets have had range for several expansions now, they’re currently overtuned, they’ll get nerfed then the forums will just be post after post to ‘nerf X,’ and so forth until you’re all (not you specifically, but everyone) comfortable with your current placement in the FoTM lottery–per usual. No sense in trying to dramatically change the playstyle of a class when Blizzard could simply do % nerfs to abilities to tone them down.

When Warlock is crushing people in games no one suggests they have to jump 3 times before they can use their gate or whatever. lol

Just remove crusader strike auto attack talent, incentivize templar strikes combo ability. Put a bunch of rets damage into it. Boom spec is melee again.

2 expansions. A majority of their lifetime ret has been melee. Asking a melee class to get into melee every once in awhile is different than asking a warlock to jump lol tf

If they nerfed final verdict in PvP, and buffed justicar’s vengeance, ret would be a melee

Doesn’t JV still get 8 yards??

Yeah I just looked at the talent for the first time in years and yes it is still 8 yards, but keep in mind final verdict pre-rework was 12 yards, so 8 is prob an acceptable compromise

Do you encounter a lot of Rets who never go into melee range or something? Lol

Anyway, I guess we’ll see whether Blizzard greys out my bars or not if I can’t stand on top of a Mage every few seconds.

Just buff JV in pvp by a huge amount and give rets undispellable hoj pvp talent. You will see a miracle.

I have an idea for ret.
How about we make the class completely melee like it always was?
Also gut their tankiness, block the usage of lay in arena again, and remove the unnecessary 1min pvp talent trinket + 10 sec pvp talent bubble. Why did ret even need these when it already has plenty of utility.

Blizzard even rewards them with a 30% heal when they bubble now, so they spend less time casting flash of light, always being able to use bubble offensively.

This was never a thing.

Better idea, how about we get rid of the dumb 30 mage teleports, 10 warlock teleports, warrior/ww/dh 20 gap closers and we make Templar’s Verdict melee only again.

As far as I know, ret is suposed to be a melee spec with judgment as filler and HoW as execute (ranged), that about it. I doubt any long time ret players wanted this bizarre evoker/shadow priest in plate playstyle.

What about not to center on one class unfair design (wich they are) and we look the whole picture instead? why do you think warriors are asking for ranged abilities? cos be on melee this days sucks as hell! Always being punished when trying to get to your enemy and in the prosses you get a rain of damage and when you finally get there you got root, you got knockback or 70% slow and back to the beginning. Melees want to play dude! as a caster you can play even if the melee is on you cos you don’t depend on range, have spammable of shields, don’t have to cast almost any spell and always Always have a way to respond anything melee have (for not to mention cc). Don’t come here telling me -but we clothies are weak if you melee, are near- since alfa, this game have NEVER respect the cloth or plate type of armor, magic damage bypass armor no matter their thickness!

I’d personally love ret to actually be a true melee dps again (both playing AS and Against), but that just doesn’t seem likely atm with how popular the rework has been in both pvp and pve.

I like the suggestion of giving ranged fv a choice node option that does more damage, but requires melee range.
