My Pet Is My Weapon

As a Beast Master Hunter our pets are our weapons. It is still nice to have a gun / bow / crossbow to do what hunters do but the main antagonist for our damage profile is our pets.

I remember years ago when each pet gave different buffs such as:

Cats - Mastery
Wolfs - Crit
Hyenas - Attack Speed
Shale Spiders - Str / Agil / Intel / Stam

you get the point some even had battle resses / water walking and etc…

What I am trying to accomplish with this thread is to bring back pet identity. Right now BM hunters in their current state are O.K. in single target but horrendous in cleave / aoe.

So rather than buffing certain abilities why not address and or redesign our pets?

Have certain pets king of single target.
Have certain pets king of 2-3 target cleave.
Have certain pets king of mass aoe.
Have hybrid pets that are good at 2 of these suggestions and bad at 1. (3 possible hybrids.)
Have certain pets that can be king of group / raid healing. Such as cranes etc. (Where they can either provide increased healing for certain party members or just offer a single target or aoe heal to the group)

I dunno you decide. But as a BM hunter my pet is my weapon. Lets deepen the identity of this spec and open new doors in 10.0 and beyond.

I would like to see this, some depth and complexity added to Hunter’s pets, I think it adds enjoyment, fun to the game.
The homogenizing of Hunter’s pets, the simplification is not an improvement, to my way of thinking. For PvE content, it currently hardly matters what pet a Hunter decides to run, matching a pet to a transmog is as good a way as any. I liked things better, when my choice of pet affected my gameplay.
I don’t play BM, but surely some of this would trickle down to MM (or else!) (I might cry).

No, please dont.
Please dont turn the pet into just another talent row that you have to adjust according to the content. Let me take the pet that i want for my reasons and not because its the BIS pet for this or that encounter.
I dont want to go back to the times where literally every single hunter used a wolf.

Gonna agree with Gromgarr in this one.

Having pets offer different things like this = every Hunter uses the best pet. We already still have some of it today with Clefthoof in open world.

Id be with the OP as long as we could choose any pet and not be locked to specific ones. the spec swap in Legion was nice.

How about pet talents?

I’d say it’s a pointless complication and confusion
A greater percent of players will just take the cookie cutter build for optimal DPS and people who aren’t aware will get bashed in content infrequently for a micro meta they didn’t even know existed
The system we have now is mostly good
You use the pet specifically that you like that is the spec you want, with no real penalties (except in PvP where you’re practically taking a raptor in most situations and reban against non paladin/priest comps)
They’re basically the conduits to use command pet in most situations

Sporebat. Get a sporebat.

I would like my pets abilities and Talents to complement my choice of Talents.
I want my pet to enhance my capabilities.
I want my pet to be more than just a fashion statement.

not really versatility with the best weapon you can get is your best weapon.bm stopped being about its pets doing damage a long time ago.
