My ONLY gripe about Mythic+

My biggest gripe with Mythic+ is that it is almost impossible to get a specific item you want without being INCREDIBLY lucky.

I know a lot of melee want the scarstone from Court of Stars, and a bunch of casters have the Horn of Valor from halls of valor as their BiS trinket. But actually setting about acquiring a specific item in Mythic+ is almost impossible.

You only receive 1 piece of gear at the end of the dungeon, and that’s if you get anything. What like…one in four times you actually have an item at the end of the dungeon? So even if you get that 25% chance to get something at the end, your not just looking at rolling one bosses loot table, but the entire loot table of the dungeon.

Let’s use a warlock for example. There are 5 bosses in the halls of valor. Of the entire dungeon’s loot table, you are eligible for a total of 15 items on the loot table. So what you’re really looking at is a 25% chance to get ANY ITEM, and then a 1 in 15 chance (6.67%) to get the item you’re looking for, so you’re looking at like what… 1%? Less than 1% chance to get the item you’re looking for per run?

This is one of the most brutal RNG systems I’ve ever encountered. Seriously, god help you if your BiS trinket/weapon is in one of these temporary non-DF Mythic+ dungeons.

There needs to be a way to more realistically farm said specific item without smashing your face into the same dungeon 20 times a day just for one trinket. Not even raiders have it this brutal and they can only do the boss once per week.

I’ve been slamming my head into court of stars on my monk for the whetstone trinket for so long I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve ran it now.

Before anyone goes around trying to slam me for being lazy, I’m perfectly okay with farming, even if it takes a while. But it is just soulcrushing and heartbreaking going into a grind knowing the odds of it paying off are this screwed up.

Solution? The only possibly solution I could think of that would make for a decent compromise is you can choose (if you want) what bosses loot table your want your chest to roll from. If you’re farming the halls of valor for the horn, you can select only Hymdall’s loot table and your chest will roll only items on his table. If this makes it too easy to farm, at least be able to blacklist one or two bosses’ loottables that give you no upgrades whatsoever.

Yeah, it’s difficult to target stuff without a stacked party to funnel stuff.

Here’s my Streets history from Shrouded/S4. :dracthyr_hehe_animated: I never even saw the piece I wanted.

i uhh…
i can somewhat relate…

tryin to farm some haste rings only to come up with a Versatility and a gosh dang mastery stats…

I mean obsessing over one item just isn’t a good idea in this game.

Learned that the hard way trying to get Deathbringer’s Will back in Wrath.

I think it’s offset by the fact that you can run the dungeon as many times as you want.

Raiders have to wait 7 days for another shot at it.

not to mention its 30-45mins at most.

20-30 if you’re lucky.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this issue with Mythic+. It can certainly be frustrating when you are trying to farm for a specific item and the odds seem stacked against you.

One option that you mentioned is the ability to choose which boss’s loot table you want your chest to roll from, or to blacklist certain bosses’ loot tables. This could potentially give players more control over the items they receive from Mythic+ runs. However, it’s important to consider the balance of the game and whether such a change would be fair or overpowered. It’s also worth noting that RNG (random number generation) is a common feature in many games, and it can add an element of excitement and unpredictability to the gameplay.

Another option could be to increase the chances of receiving an item from the end-of-dungeon chest, or to allow players to choose which item they receive from the chest (similar to how players can choose which piece of gear they receive from the end-of-raid chest in some games). This could help alleviate some of the frustration associated with the RNG element of Mythic+.

The group receives two pieces of gear for every mythic+ you complete. The only difference if you don’t time it is one of the pieces is one level below the other (382 vs 385). So you have a 2/5 chance at getting a drop from any dungeon you complete.

Targeting a specific drop is still going to be a lesson in patience either way tho.

It’s everyone’s gripe with M+. Blizzard optimizes engagement, probably with some sort of machine learning and simulation. It is why the loot system has come to such a steady state. This is their model for manipulating the most possible people into running more dungeons than they want to. They can’t respond to the feedback because they don’t design the loot rates, a robot does. A thread like this had about 48,000 replies on the 9.0 PTR forum over 3 years ago and they didn’t even make a token adjustment. The loot system is set in stone by our AI gods.

But Mythic+ is intended for you to smash your face in the dungeon twenty, fifty, a hundred times.

Why would they design a system to avoid playing the way they want you to play?

Yeah, this fact alone makes M+ kind of overpowered for PvE gearing.

can you get an item in M0 and upgrade it with valor to M+ level?

Nope; +2 onwards only.

Your info and math are a little off. 2 pieces drop not 1, so that’s a 2/5 chance at getting something, then assuming your example of 15 total options for warlock is correct, that’s 1/15. Now, for figuring out if two events could both happen, you multiply the probabilities (add them if you’re figuring out if one or the other could happen), so 2/5 * 1/15 is 2/75 which gets you a 2.67% chance at getting the piece you want (if you’re the only class who can use it). To increase your odds, you could try inviting all classes that can use your item (example, I would guess that a BiS warlock trinket would also drop for pretty much any caster).

Isn’t it 1/5 (I think it’s one item per mythic plus run right). and then factoring you win that roll whatever % of the roll it takes from the item in comparison to all the loot tables for those bosses.

P.S. - turns out its 2/5 guarenteed. So that’s 40% chance at loot each run apparently.

The more bosses the harder rng there is.

Also the fact you can’t do mythic 0s for old dungeons sort of suck, since those pieces could normally be upgraded with valor. I think blizz should make 0s for old dungeons a thing for the extra loot chance for pieces you want to upgrade.

It would be nice for a vendor like that to exist though. I just go with whatever stupid rng blizz decides to give me with great vault and manage, although my goals aren’t even for mythic plus and more just getting gear in general for my solo stuff.

Mythic+ always drops 2 items at the end.

my monk never got a codex, period. my prot warrior got one her first run there.

my rsham went all of s2 and s3 without a ruby. she finally got it in the post-s3 vault. monk got it her first run. the shaman also took 40 runs to get changeling (and only got it because somebody else traded it!)

Oh ok that’s nice. That’s 40% chance at loot then.
