Was on an $1800 budget got this for $1750, my current PC was about 5 years old and started lagging a lot playing wow recently and always was loading and bottled down and bad in raids so here is hoping that don’t happen on new machine for about 5 years, thanks to all who helped me in other threads
Here is what I bought lets hope it last the next 5 to 6 years without lagging down like my current one
I would recommend a good air cooler for your CPU like an NH-D15 or similar. Cooling will vary depending on your case and intake fan sizes, speeds and placements.
(That liquid cooler is not going to last long on that CPU)
That CPU with that Vid Card is going to function like a heater. I will be surprised if it gets though summer if you don’t have an air conditioner in your room. If your case can only fit a 240mm AIO Good Luck.
Possibly keeping your OS on a 2.5" SSD as well (They are fast enough still), just run games of your M.2
Apart from that seems like a nice PC
I am not up on a lot of the computer knowledge but I will try and respond
Yes my house has central air so my gaming office is pretty cool
As for fans the case has the liquid cool plus another 3 fans in it
So what your saying is the biggest issue will be to keep it cool? Sorry I am not an expert at this ? What can I buy that someone like me can add to it to keep it cool? Keep in mind I am dumb at this stuff and need you to be detailed in dumbed down terms
Aside from making sure it stays cool the machine should accomplish good performance for at least 3 years ?
Depending on how much you use it will depend on how long it lasts.
Like i said the Liquid Cooler will be your weak spot. But its really hard for me to judge, i did not paste your cpu and I dont know how much air circulation is inside your case nor how your fans are positioned.
Try and keep the air intakes clear of dust buildup (usually on the front of your case). A quick vacuum one a month is what I usually do. This should keep the fans clean and provide optimal cooling / air flow.
Learn and Use Core Temp for your CPU cooling monitoring (alcpu dot com)
Learn and Use GPU-Z for your Video Card monitoring (techpowerup dot com)
HWMonitor from CPUID is also a nice program
They are all easy to use and provide great feedback of your system temps
Dont stress to much. It should be under warranty, if it dies you should be covered.
Air conditioning in the room will help minimal if the cooling in The unit isn’t there. That’s a common myth, cooling components in a pc is about transferring heat away from the components at the source. That’s why water cooler in solutions when installed and maintained properly offer superior cooling - simple science water transfers heat better than air.
However a quality air cooler is a good suggestion if you do t want the hassle of a closed loop or don’t want an AIO.
Back to the environment. Once cooling in the unit is squared away then ac in the room helps make the cooling more efficient because your system blows out the hot air if there’s no ac first the room will be warmer for you sitting there but when the intakes suck and n the air it’ll be warmer.
Overall decent system. If gaming is the main purpose, the 7800x3d is better than the 7900x (and for that matter the 7900x3d), 64 GB of ram is probably overkill, but if you have a lot of chrome tabs open at once it can be helpful.
Thanks, I should also add really the only game I play on the pc that has any graphic value is world of warcraft. Other games I play like fire pro wrestling and such you could play on an Atari lol
The CPU and RAM are overkill if you only do gaming with little else running in the background. As far as I know, few games would utilize even half the potential of that CPU. I think most games today utilize 8 to 12 threads.
32 GB of RAM is currently the sweet spot for gaming. 64GB of RAM could be utilized in turn-based strategy games that use massive maps and many bot players such as Galactic Civilizations III.
