My low damage makes me sad

I am an item level 270 Feral Druid but they say I am only doing dps of that of an 240, I’m not sure how to get it reasonably higher. I’m following the stat guides, rotation strategy, keeping my 4 bleeds up and using all my CDs whenever I get a chance. But nothing seems to work. I’m not aiming for top damage, but something where people will stop complaining how how low my damage is. Someone help, I’m getting out spun by healers over here.

might try asking in the druid forum.

2nd going to the druid section.

Are we talking raid or M+? Feral is rough for M+, only really gets to shine during bosses. I’m not super familiar with feral, but browsing guides the legendary you have equipped according to your armory isn’t optimal. Your trinkets aren’t great either, but I understand that we are usually beggars not choosers in this case.

All the advice I can really give with the info provided.

the issue is probably that balance druids do crazy high dmg and their expectation seeing orange in the meters is that ant druid would be that high…

Nothing to be sad about. Just have fun and dont stress yourself out. Im fairly certain im not doing the expected damage of unholy at 251(highest ill ever get) but i dont care. Im not joining necrolords ever so its irrelevant.

It’s a feral thing.
It’s possible to pump decent numbers in the right situations, but also be prepared to do tank dps if your attack priority doesn’t match the situation. By that I mean spreading bleeds, picking priority targets for predator uptime etc.
I’m still secretly hoping the revamp to talents will help ferals in some way for DragonFlight, but I’ve been prepping to swap to my monk and park my druid if it’s the same as the last few years for feral.

Do reach out to the druid forum section though, there are some good players that can help you diagnose the situation.

Sometimes in order to get the highest numbers you have to be running exact builds. This game is weird like that

Then play healer. There you don’t have to do damage. :eyes:

You can try using a rotation helper like Hekili

It looks like your crit is really low for one thing.

I’m also running a different lego, the free ferocious bite one. In a big pull of trash when you use your ability that puts rip on everything, it won’t stop procing, so you end up 5 dot ferocious biting back to back to back.

The phone app won’t let me switch characters so here’s my Druid you can use to compare

I’m a x raiding casual player, I run M+ with friends that are raiding and give them a run on the meters. About meters, DPS is really not where you should focus. Start monitoring damage done and see where you stack up. Hope this helps OP.

You might consider trying Moment of Clarity, it’s technically worse when both are played perfectly, but much easier to play well. Additionally, one of your rings needs and enchant and the mistcaller ocarina trinket is not a strong trinket for increasing your own damage.

Your regular legendary is also hard to optimize. I would recommend Frenzyband, the free bite one (since you have primal wrath, this will be good in aoe as well), or circle of life.

Balance druid crazy high damage? Ignorance or trolling?

Its actually bottom dps in raid rankings and autodecline in m+ lol.

Its like this in every expac, boomkin starts of really good but falls of due to zero scaling, so you might be mixing 9.0 boomkins with 9.2 boomkins.

I have seen a few very good ferals in my pugs; however, the fact is that most of them have been mediocre. They are clearly capable of doing good dps, but it seems to be a big skill curve to get there.

The best advice anyone can give you is to keep practicing. If you do the same thing every run, you will not improve. You have to actively and consciously review each run at the end and think about improvements. CD management, mechanics, any place you died, ect.

Deaths are a major factor in your overall numbers.

Also feral is probably the dps with highest skill cap…so gotta watch videos, read guide.

Feral is climbing on dps ranking for raids, but the population is still staying very very small. Been the same players for years and years so they are most likely very good.

  1. OK now sum durid is cat

  2. Cat durid, tehm dosent heel.

  3. Cat uis for fite

  4. Cat durid dosent talk about fite

  5. when cat durid is FITE do not ask for HEEL and NINIRVATE!

…All seriousness, do echo the Druid forums suggestions. Alls I knows is Feral Druids are one of, if not the hardest melee DPS to get good damage outta.

It is a tough call, isn’t it?

Do you want to have big numbers for all to see or do you want to play this class that (I assume) that you love.

You’ll get better and more confident, with some milage on you I think that the criticism will roll right off of your back because you know that you are playing right. I hope that your relatively low numbers are not making the group fail!

Four bleeds? That doesn’t sound right. Should only be two bleeds in single target and three in AoE.

In single target you only want to actively maintain Rake and Rip, only using Thrash to trigger Bloodtalons when necessary. This will naturally result in decently high uptime for Thrash but you don’t want to refresh it on purpose if you’re not going to trigger Bloodtalons. In AoE you’ll maintain Thrash, use Primal Wrath to maintain Rip, and maintain Rake on as many targets as possible.

What I did not notice you mention is snapshotting. Feral bleeds snapshot 3 specific buffs when they are cast, the most important of which is Tiger’s Fury. You mentioned using your CDs on cooldown… so could I ask you to elaborate on how you’re using Tiger’s Fury? If you overcap energy with it or if you don’t snapshot properly with it you’ll see some bad results. Similarly, Berserk causes all of your attacks to be treated as if they were cast from stealth. Rake snapshots stealth and indeed it’s a massive 100% bonus. This means regardless of the time remaining on Rake, you want to refresh it ASAP upon entering Berserk and then again just as you exit Berserk to ensure maximum stealth Rake time. The buff is that good.

One major issue I’m seeing though is your legendary. You should probably swap Lycra’s’ Fleeting Glimpse for either Frenzyband (for general content) or Apex Predator (for funnel damage in dungeons). Semi related to your legendary, I notice you’re using Vers/Mastery on yours. You should be going for Crit/Mastery. Crit should be your highest stat. More crit = more CP = more finishers = happy cat. In general your stat priority should be Crit >= Mastery >> Vers = Haste. You do want a little bit of Vers and Haste but you have probably a bit too much. (Also get your rings enchanted. That’s just free stats you’re passing up on. Similarly if you’re doing dungeons you’ll want to swap out your chest enchant for eternal stats and your weapon enchant for Celestial.)

Your trinkets are…. interesting. Do you have any other trinks available?

If you want I can try to dig up some logs for you to give you more specific advice or you can throw some at me yourself. Kinda difficult to know what’s going wrong if I can’t see for myself what you’re doing.

For dungeons this is actually a pretty big deal for Feral. Our AoE damage is kind of lol except when Sickle of the Lion is involved. Since Sickle is tied to Berserk that means that Frenzyband actually boosts our AoE damage in Berserk by quite a fair bit, both by applying an extra DoT to everyone we hit with Thrash and by making Berserk happen more often. The problem is that you can’t Berserk every single pack and maximizing it usually involves some amount of knowledge on the route and planning ahead of time the best places to use it. Once you’re in Berserk, counterintuitively your rotation changes a bit and applying Rake becomes basically your only goal. Swipe isn’t buffed by Berserk, Rake is. You still want to maintain BT Primal Wrath on everyone, but maintaining stealth Rakes is top priority. After 4pc Berserk becomes your top AoE cooldown but you wanna communicate with your teammates about when everyone’s cooldowns get used since it’s not really a burst cooldown. If you use it when everyone else bursts you’re gonna come out looking sad.

For Convoke the Spirits, some Ferals get a little too excited to use it in Moonkin form. Moonkin form is actually only a gain on like, 5+ targets. Before that you want to stay in cat because it tends to spread Lunar Inspiration Moonfires around. Once you hit those 5+ targets though, Convoking in Moonkin will tend to give you both Starfall and Full Moon which is chef’s kiss on large trash packs, doubly so if you do so during Heart of the Wild.

When you use Convoke in cat, it is better to use Convoke during Berserk but especially with Unity you don’t want to hold it for more than a couple seconds to make them line up, the bonus isn’t THAT good. You also want to try to use it when Tiger’s Fury is on cooldown and you don’t have the buff, because Convoke will almost always give you Tiger’s Fury if you don’t have the buff which means 15 extra seconds of Tiger’s Fury you wouldn’t have had otherwise. Unless you’re running Predator, which in dungeons you usually should be except for certain affixes. If you run Predator you’ll have nearly full uptime on Tiger’s Fury anyway so just fire off Convoke whenever in that case.

For training purposes, try the MaxDPS addon.

Share a log over at Dreamgrove discord and see if the feral players can give you some tips.

Haven’t played feral dps but if Its like any other dps class it’ll be all about cool down management.
